The Swan in Warrington

I asked for a quiet cosy/window table, we got put in the back quiet room not in window or corner but by a freezing air con blowing on us, I asked to be moved & we was given a choice of 2 tables neither what we’d asked for and ended up sitting in a family room!!! Waited a long time to be served and had to ask for the bill twice

On entry there was a strong smell of smoke with the open fire, there was an awful lot of flys about surprised in January, and when we told a waitress she seemed disinterested, The food was awful it was cold I have used Greene king before and never was the food so bad, we wasn't asked half way if the food was ok, we complained at the end and only 2 out of five had eaten there food, we was given a partial refund and an apology. The pub was not busy.

Absolutely awful experience staff were rude unhelpful the food was poor undercooked or burned! And the staff lit an open fire right next to a table with two toddlers without asking if we would prefer to move there was only one other group in the pub at that time and the smoke was in our hair and on our clothes- very bad experience

Went for breakfast for my birthday. Food was undercooked. Sat us right next to the fire with 2 toddlers wasn’t lit decided to light it half way through our meal. It was incredibly smokey all our clothes stank even my hair. Asked the staff why it happened who were very rude and appeared to just want to argue.

I visited the swan for some dinner with friends. First of all we got a drink of moretti, which we had to take bk and replace for a peroni exchange!!! Too which it tasted just the same and as bad as the moretti. Also heavily priced!!! We then ordered some food, which hours later went through me like a Porsche! I was stuck on my porcelain pony all night!! I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS SO CALLED PUB/restaurant!!!!

Had to get a mortgage for 3 pints. The beer is terrible. They had a very peculiar aftertaste.

Called in for a spot of lunch as we were passing, staff lovely, food lovely and plentiful and had a good window table view. So impressed we booked a table for 7 + toddler for Mother's Day. Would recommend highly, thank you 👌

Had to wait 20 mins for service and then what I asked for they ran out of so chose something else food came but was not hot it was luke warm and was missing some veg when asked about the veg she said it does not come with what we had but I looked at menu and it should of come with the meal not good

Visitted on Sunday afternoon. The roast beef dinner was superb and the service was outstanding. Can't recommend enough.

Order drinks from bar which as unclean and sticky tried to pick up the food menu but it was stuck to the bar we then sat in an area with table service which was not met we went to bar to order and was told by a service woman she would take are order at table shortly, she then proceeded to spend 15 minutes clearing tables and sweeping up afterwards went to take out order, we politely declined. A manger then approached us and asked if we had been seated here, which we had not been, she then informed me that we would have to move shortly due to a booking, the table we sat at had no reservation signs on nor had the original server inform us of this, this felt targeted due to us not ordering any food, I would strongly advice against visiting this pub and will not be doing so in future.

15th January 2025. ‘Wandering Wednesday’ we have decided each month, we will go to two eateries that we have previously been too and discover two new places to eat……. So on that note! this week ‘Wandering Wednesday took Neil and I to the ‘Swan’ at Winwick….. not eaten here before. We both went straight to the entrées as I had a dental appointment, so didn’t have all afternoon to wander!…… Neil went for one of his favourites which was fish and chips, he chosen garden peas to accompany it and upgraded the meal to have added scampi, which included a round of bread and butter too. I had a starter sharing board, for my choice as a main meal, this included small dishes of: Cottage pie croquettes, honey and bbq chicken strips, honey and mustard chipolatas, crispy squid and garden patch humours with sourdough shards and bbq dipping sauce…..along with a side of fries. Two large cokes to wash it down. The gentleman that served us was very polite, professional and attentive, the food was with us in no time at all. The meal was ok! slightly disappointing…. like I said it was ok! Would we go back?? Don’t think so.

Bit weird this. We called in on spec, 5.30 Tuesday eve, pub mostly empty. Was told at the reception there were no tables available, as I said, pub half empty. We left, went outside and booked online for 6pm. Went back in saw the same member of staff and was shown to a table, so either the staff wasn't to go home early or the computer booking system is wrong. Probs won't bother going again, customers appear to be in the way.

This should be one of the most popular pubs in Warrington but it is let down by the service. No staff so couldn’t get food when nearly all the tables were free at 6.15pm in a Saturday night! Somebody in Green King needs to get a grip of the Swan at Winwick!

Think it was not value for money!! Father Christmas sat at a fire asking what they wanted for Christmas. Breakfast just ok and £54.00 for a cheap book. Very disappointed and won’t go next year!!!!

Walked into a near empty pub, hadn't booked being a Monday and was told they couldn't accommodate a table of 3, looked online to book a table 15 mins later and it was confirmed, decided to cancel and go somewhere else, shocking

Never Again....Battered Fish batter dark brown over cooked...chicken dry overcooked....Puddings very nice....lime and soda tasteless....overpriced...chairs stained and shabby....overpriced. ..needs refurb and everywhere needs a good scrub...service slow

Fabulous festive feel and great food. Family friendly great place to get together. Ellis was exceptional sorted a swap of table on a busy Christmas Eve when a couple more people joined us. Really great place and service.

I booked and asked Gordon a specific area on arrival I gave in my name and was lead to a completely different area of the pub a large family room ..not what I requested the pub was busy so we moved to a quieter area that was far better for us ...the food was nothing to write home about usual pub fodder just more expensive ..service was good by the waitress all in all not a fan won't be going back soon shame as I used to love the Swan as it was a home cooking pub ...now its a chain its lost that originality...

Useless staff, waiting 10 minutes at reception trying to get staff attention and was ignored. Would recommend going somewhere better if you're in the area.

We used Tesco vouchers for our Saturday teatime meal. Steak and ale pie and chips with a glass of red for the bottle blonde and smothered chicken for yours truly, washed down with an alcohol free beer. And a salted caramel sundae to finish, well it is my birthday year! Service was a bit slow, but it was busy, so you have to deal with it! Look at my other reviews to see where I've been!

Hit and miss with the food. Staff are always on hand to try and sort it out but unfortunately it is always going to spoil the experience.

Food was excellent. Great menu choices for vegetarian. Wine was reasonably priced. On the whole great value. Good portion sizes.

A very busy pub snd restaurant with very friendly staff. We booked a table for 4 which was ready when we arrived. There is a good selection of beers and the menu has a good range of dishes. I had the game mixed grill with the best confit duck I’ve ever tried. It was packed with flavour and fell off the bone. The venison was cooked well done she was pretty dry, which was disappointing and the meal was not worth £23.49 by a long way. The fish and chips and tomato soup were also good, but the mixed grill was not worth the price. Getting drinks ordered from our table was easy, but the machine was broken, so we waited 15+ mins for drinks and had to re order. I went the bar for the next round which took a few minutes. A stunning pub with lots of character.

Dalton was the best server ever! Did scan about 20 tesco vouchers bless him but was so lovely throughout - defo come again!

Staff very polite, good selection of drinks. Didn't have food so can't comment. Quite expensive for pints. Open fire on a colder afternoon was much appreciated.

Booked a meal for 7.15pm. No one came to the table to take a drinks order we had to go and find someone to serve us finally after 25 minutes someone came and asked us what drinks we would like. Much later we had to go and find someone to take our food order. At 8.25pm our starter arrived followed by our main meal. Starter was disgusting everything on the sharing platter was a different temperature from mad hot to cold. 3 main meals arrived all totally horrible. I have never ever eaten a meal, anywhere, so terrible. My son wouldnt let us complain but it was an absolute waste of money. Never, ever will I eat in the Swan pub Winwick. Utter garbage.

Usually I enjoy a meal here but today I ordered garlic bread it was swimming in butter on the plate and the bread itself was soggy. They did replace it thankfully as I eat here quite a lot. Maybe the chef had an off day

After having a disappointing visit(see below)sometime ago I have visited a few time since! Popped in for a quick lunch Sunday 27 October. We were served by Ollie who was a polite, cheeky and cheerful chap! Made us laugh and served us with a smile on his face. Thanks Ollie for making our lunch enjoyable! Oh and the food was good too! Fish pie was a little oily but nice, too much butter on the sourdough bread that was served with it the veg was good! Sunday lunch looked good, roast turkey and all the trimmings! My partner really enjoyed it! A better experience this time thank you. Ordered signature mixed grill and vegie burger, waited at least 30 mins for the main, starter came within 5 minutes. Stilton and mushrooms with pepper corn sauce. This was ok! The mixed grill came with no chicken breast, when asked the waitress (who was ok) immediately brought half a chicken breast from the kitchen! Not really any apology. The vegie burger was a fried burger that I would have been happy with from Witherspoon! But not here as the prices are higher! All in all very disappointing 😐

This is the first time we have visited The Swan at Winwick and I hope it won’t be the last. We met up with family for Sunday lunch. Excellent choice of menu. Went for the roast turkey Sunday lunch. What a plateful! Full of fresh veg. We managed to find room for dessert. Our waiter Ollie was friendly and attentive. Perhaps the meals could have been a bit hotter but to be fair the place was very busy and the staff were on the go the whole time. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere including a blazing fire. Would definitely recommend.

Food options not available on a very limited menu. One drink not size we ordered, mains tepid in temperature, steak sent back as half fat, over cooked and cold chips, no steak knife, other knives blunt, more drinks ordered, arrived 20 mins later after reminding, 1 drink full fat coke not diet as requested, still no steak, hubby finished meal. Told staff we where dissatisfied and we wouldn't be paying, although the front of house staff where trying to be helpful it was too little after having our rare meal out together ruined, i left without eating.

Monday lunch time meal out for 6 adults. We have eaten here many times before. I did book online. Lovely food, food ranged from Belly Pork, steak, hamburger, mixed grill, toad in the hole and fish & chips, I had 3 scoops ice cream and another had a coffee and a mini pudding. Place was all clean and tidy, toilets all OK. Staff all very pleasant, sorry I didn’t get any names. All in all a very enjoyable few hours eating drinking and being together. We will be back again soon no doubt.

Highly recommend this restaurant it s set a little bit back off and he road with good parking. As I am recovering from surgery I asked to order a smaller meal and was offered a very good children’s menu that had many more options than the usual nuggets or burgers, even a choice of sides to accompany the meal. I opted for a small steak which was delicious and the two sides I opted for baked potato and roasted carrots. Hubby had scampi with chips and peas and was happy with his choice. Absolutely fantastic service too from Tina and Charlie. Who checked we were ok with ingredients in case of allergies. Now I know it’s here I will be back.

Had a lovely late lunch served by Dalton. This young man has served us on numerous occasions and is always polite and professional, nothing is too much trouble. Great pub with welcoming, cosy open fire.

Service from ellis was amazing he was quick with service and very smiley. Nothing was too much trouble for him even our fussy drinks orders.

Been today for the first time. I had off the special board the game mixed grill which was boar sausage, venison steak, and roast duck with celeriac slaw, potatoe wedges, onion ring onion chuckney. Have to say it was the best meal I have had eating out in a long time. My husbands meal was nice but he was very envious of my meal when it came out. My husband had dessert which was a trio of old classic desserts Eton mess, sherry trifle. And jam rolly polly with custard. He really enjoyed. We would highly recommend this meal and pub. The atmosphere was very nice and relaxed. Service was great will definitely be back.

The Swan is our local and we always receive a friendly welcome and smile when we visit. The staff are fantastic and make you feel like part of the family in particular Ebony and Dalton who are always very pleasant and they always find time to have a little chat. The food options on the menu have been somewhat reduced over time which does restrict choices, personally I would like to see some more traditional dishes reintroduced that use to be on the menu.

The special game mixed grill was delicious and so well cooked. The service was outstanding with Ellis providing a wonderful table service experience. Such a treat to be all around spoiled.

Called for lunch had the roasted vegetable pie with roast new potatoes. It was good to see not every plate has to be with chips as is often with pub chains. Certainly lots of choice and if in the area I would call again.

It's ok, there was a hiccup with the order in which we received the wrong food. They were out of normal burger buns and barely any cheese on the burger....however the place was very clean and well presented. Staff very friendly.

We had a great meal celebrating my son's first day at High School. Our waitress was Ebony, and she was amazing. She was really friendly and efficient. When visiting a pub it's the staff which makes the difference, and Ebony was fantastic.

Absolutely brilliant! Staff were very warm, welcoming and chatty. Would definitely come back as the food was excellent! We were served by a lad called Ollie who was brilliant and enjoyed having a laugh with the child on our table! Safe to say the perfect Sunday, thanks all!

We had a lovely family meal at the Swan this afternoon. It was the first time we had ever been and the staff were very friendly and approachable during a busy time. A special mention goes to Marie and Ollie who served us for the duration of our meal and made us feel welcome. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Only stopped in for a quick business meeting and only had a pot of tea. Service was excellent and the waitress,pippa was very nice and polite.
