A couple of years ago, we had a great experience at this chip shop, so on our final night away with family, we decided to return for fish and chips. Unfortunately, this visit was a major disappointment, especially due to the lack of accommodation for dietary restrictions. My son is dairy-free, and my wife is both gluten- and dairy-free. Upon ordering, I asked if the batter was dairy-free, hoping for at least one option for them. The response? A curt “everything contains dairy.” There were no alternatives offered, no suggestions, and no empathy from the staff. Imagine my frustration when I got home, reviewed the photo I’d taken of the ingredients for the chicken nuggets, and discovered—after translating them into English—that they did not actually contain dairy. It was clear the staff either didn’t know their own menu or couldn’t be bothered to provide accurate information. It’s 2025—many establishments are proactive in catering to dietary needs, but this chip shop seems stuck in the past. A bit of effort or care would have gone a long way, but neither was evident. If you’re looking for a traditional fish and chip experience and don’t have any dietary concerns, this place might be fine. But for anyone with dietary restrictions, I’d recommend looking elsewhere to avoid the frustration.

They have a sign saying we welcome patient people that are willing to wait for good food, that says it all. But the 1 menu of just sandwich/toasties/soup and scones of which they only had cheese one at noon! Doesn’t seem to cater to children no kids menu but did half sandwiches when asked to and no condiments as tomato sauce was a blank no. Food it lovely just shame one member of staff is so abrupt as the other 2 ladies seamed nice even if that member of staff was rude to them!

This is an excellent take-away. I have spent a lot of time travelling in Indian and Bangladesh. The Swaffham Spice is probably about as close to authentic street food that you can get. If your looking for the sanitised brit version of Indian food, expensive and laced with cream and colouring, then its probably not for you. If you want to sample a curry, as it should be, then this is the place for you. Great flavours together with excellent prices.

Pre Christmas Lunch was all we expected form this cafe. A group of us went on Tuesday. We ate so much we couldn't face the mince pies. The steak was exactly as my husband like and all the other food was top notch. Thanks to all the staff, front of house and kitchen workers. Would recommend it to anyone wanting a reasonably priced festive meal. (If they have any room)

I popped in with my partner to be confronted by the male manager who seemed to be seething, rushing around in an angry strop , dropping cutlery ( spoons ) all over the floor before picking them all up and putting them straight into the public cutlery tray ( let's hope nobody had dog poo on their shoes that day! ). He also rudely looks people up and down from head to toe, overtly which is extremely bad mannered and me and my partner left soon as we were sick of noticing him. The drinks? Extra large mugs are a normal kitchen mug size with a head on the latte taking up a quarter of the mug ( I would dread to see what a small cup looks like ). On a plus side, the female staff seem polite but the contaminated cutlery issue means that this place cannot be recomended

If it’s good quality English food you want then this is the place to go. I had a very tasty cottage pie followed by a jam roly poly and custard.

Looked on line for a carvery and found some good reviews for the Saxon. It turned out to be a very dissapointing visit. When we entered the car park it looked rather neglected. Entering the pub and things looked slightly better and we were served at the bar quite quickly. The restaurant was empty, the tables whilst clean were completely empty . There was also nothing on the walls so the room felt very stark and empty. The food was on one heated trolley and the meats were pre carved in dishes which wasn't a good sign as I always thought a carvery was where you carved the meat to serve it. We were served fairly promptly but som of the food was not yet on the trolley. On taking the plate I noticed it was very cold, when we got sat down we found the broccole was nearly cold and because the plates were cold, the food soon became cool. The rest of the food was cooked pretty well but nothing to praise up. We won't be visiting again.

We had a late breakfast here whilst on holiday and found something for both sweet and savoury tastes. Fresh scones and cakes along with breakfast items along with a good choice of hot and cold drinks for a great visit. Staff were very friendly and the prices very reasonable. Definitely recommend

I live a mile from Brome hall and have never visited this place before! Why I ask myself? Took my mum for afternoon tea today. A warm friendly welcome. The tea was awesome. Couldn't fault at all. Perhaps next time and yes, there will be a next, the conservatory would have been wiser so we could have a sleep on the sofas. Sunday lunch is also on the agenda.!!
