The best restaurants in Uttlesford East of England

So disappointed in our visit. We braved the crowds and visited the market on a Saturday afternoon. The pub looked warm and welcoming on a very cold day. We were ushered to the bar when we first got there while a table was made ready for us. Only waited 10 minutes which was great. Ordered some bread and olives which took 20 minutes to arrive …. We should have taken more notice of the timing!!! After an hour of waiting for our lunch (a chicken wrap and a roast beef sandwich) we asked for the bill and for our order to be cancelled. The waitress apologised and offered us our sandwiches free of charge but quite frankly we’d had enough of waiting. Won’t bother going back but if you want to wait ages for food, it might suit you. All the gear and no idea springs to mind!!!

Love a Starbucks latte, but it seems every time we visit this one rarely are the tables cleared and wiped - always have to clear it ourselves before taking a seat.

Walked in here to get some lunch as was visiting for a garden show in local area and not at all what we was expecting to see, its was very uninviting with the people we saw in there, if you like a pub with sawdust feeling on the floor look no further.

Food is consistently good. We have the same vegan/vegetarian dishes when we order and overall they are the same good quality each time. Friendly and personal service when ordering by phone and collecting.

We gathered at this lovely pub for Christmas lunch (16 of us) it was excellent - lovely welcome and the staff where really helpful and happy! They looked after us so well. The food arrive all as ordered, hot and very good indeed, everyone enjoyed it. So excellent food and service. It is worth a visit just to see the amazing Christmas decorations, really they are fabulous!

Rating as Kings. Food delivered cold, part of the order missing, and refused to return call to resolve. Won’t be going back.

This is a review for the restaurant/food not the hotel. I can honestly say this was by far one of the worst meals I personally have had and my family have had in a long long time. We were a large group who had travelled from various parts of the UK to meet here as it was a central place to meet. From the moment we ordered to the moment the starters came we had been sitting for nearly 2 hours. I ordered the chorizo and prawn starter - I had two small prawns in a bowl of tomato slush that tasted days old and microwaved. The rest of the starters were equally poor quality with my brother even stopping half way through to go to the bathroom as he felt unwell. The mains were equally as poor, my wife left her fish and picked at her chips. My brother ate a mouthful of his burger and left it as did my grandma with her scampi which tasted frozen and rushed. Service was appallingly slow, food quality was terrible and overall hugely disappointing.. The manager took money of the bill which barely paid for two of the starters - I would steer well clear if you want a decent pub meal that’s fulfilling, wholesome and timely. The staff seemed overwhelmed and under it with the pub being busy but that should never be at detriment to the restaurant - if you can’t handle both then just close the restaurant as this was beyond poor! we as a large family will never be back which is a shame as the village is stunning. Be better!! Or get more training!

First time here and had a very nice evening, nice welcome and very Christmassy look and feel. Very warm and cosy feeling to the place. Staff welcomed us and Laura served us throughout, she was lovely and a real credit to you, nothing was too much trouble. Started with the crispy duck and ribs which were amazing, the table had lots of different starters and everyone said the same…. Yum. Mains went down very well too and good portion sizes, everything was hot and well presented. We was a large group and everyone was served food at same time in a timely manner. It was a terrible experience with a Chinese man who treated us terribly, very rude and in a loud, insolent voice, all for telling him that they forgot to give us a couple of menus, poor service, I do not recommend it.

Absolutely 1st class.warm welcome ..Food hot and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend especially if you are staying around Stansted before a flight .Well done Staff you are a credit to company

I did an online order , phoned to add chips to order , was told they will be sent with order , they wasn't, I also wrote on order please deliver orange fruit shoot as I had a kids meal ordered also , that wasn't sent either , when I went to collect chips was told by staff , " I'm only human !!! No more Wrights for me ,

Gorgeous room and atmosphere that really lets you relax. I loved the tea - especially their house blend which was absolutely divine. This would have been a perfect place if the service wasn't quite so crazily slow to bring your food, or even if it is slow then having the staff just let people know at minimum. When the food did arrive - it was really tasty. Thanks for a lovely lunch.

What a great find, went on a friend’s recommendation after a poor experience in Hatfield Broad Oak last weekend. The service, quality of food and value for money are all top notch. We will definitely return in the near future and if all three continue, on a regular basis
