The best restaurants in Edinburgh and Lothian

Tuvimos una encantadora experiencia gastronómica en Aizle el viernes por la noche. La comida era excepcional , imaginativa y bien presentada. Disfrutamos especialmente de la croustada y el aperitivo de sarro de ternera , el pincho de vientre de cordero , el lomo de venado y los cursos de desiertos fueron excepcionales. El ambiente era agradable, ocupado, pero no ruidoso con espacio para la mesa. Y el servicio fue amable y atento. Volveremos.

Visited for breakfast after staying overnight in Edinburgh. Decided to skip our breakfast in the hotel and so glad we did. What can I say. This place is amazing. Food is great, service is exceptional and very good value for money. The service in this place is up there with some of the best I have had and I compare this to some very good restaurants all over the world. These guys just get it! What a great wee place and deserves to be rated as one of the best places in Edinburgh and I’m sure it will be on the top spot before you know it.

I’m originally from Musselburgh and am often back to visit relatives but we don’t often go into the main part of town. We ate here on Saturday night as two couples as my brother in law has raved about how great this place is. I was a bit sceptical as Musselburgh wouldn’t be a natural home for an Argentinian Steak House. I have to say it was fantastic. The feature is the quality of meat and that made all the dishes brilliant. We had the sharing platter - loved it. The meat was cooked exactly as asked for at medium rare and the meat was beautifully tender. The beef taco starter was brilliant and all the other steaks looked amazing. As designated driver I can’t comment on the cocktails but the others seemed to enjoy several and rounded off the meal with liqueur coffees. The quality of food is exceptional and can see why it was always busy - we had booked 3 weeks in advance and got 5.45 as all later tables were booked and they were also full when we arrived. We paid about £250 for 4 - starters , main meals, several cocktails a couple of desserts and coffees - well worth it and I would suggest that having eaten in Edinburgh at Hawksmoor, the quality of food here is in a par for a lot of better price. Wow.

Absolutely gorgeous place to visit. The coffee was incredible! Best I've had and reasonably priced considering the venue has a very up market vibe. Friendly staff too. Will definitely come back again for the food as it looked delicious.

Been a few times and the food is always delicious and all the staff friendly and attentive. We live in Manchester and visit family in the area when we can. Balerno Inn is always on the list!

Mediocre food and terrible attitude from the owner who refused to honour our reservation. Kept waiting for 20 minutes for food that tasted as bad as the meal we had on the flight over. Salt by name, salty by attitude.

We are regular visitors to the brewery bar and pizza kitchen. This is a great place to visit for all ages. A real family friendly experience, dog friendly too. The pizzas are to die for and there is such a wide ranging choice to choose from. The range of beers on tap is great, there is a beer for everyone whatever your taste is. A wide range of spirits, wine and soft drinks as well. Justyna and her team are fantastic. Very welcoming and always happy to chat. Service is fast and friendly. We recently attended the comedy night which was such a laugh and greatly received by all who attended. I hope this becomes a regular slot in the calendar. To sum up. Great beer, great pizza, amazing staff. If you haven’t been along you won’t be disappointed with a visit.

Comimos en el restaurante Skyline varias veces durante nuestra estancia en el Tynecastle Park Hotel. Su desayuno era absolutamente delicioso - Mi marido tenía el desayuno tradicional y yo los huevos Benedict. Yo recomendaría ambos. Para la cena, vinimos un domingo, así que tuvimos la oportunidad de probar su deliciosa carne asada. Su Butterscotch Pudding también es INCREÍBLEMENTE DELICIOSO. No puedo esperar a volver en nuestro próximo viaje a Edimburgo.

Damn good service and food. Never had a Nepalese Curry. Amazing. Very attentive (but not too much). I was the only one here (early dinner at 430). Great little spot.

A great spot for Singaporean and HK inspired treats! We arrived ten minutes before the place opened on a Sunday, and, I’m glad we did, as the place filled up very quickly. The interior is small, but has a really nice vibe! As someone constantly missing the Hong Kong teatime culture, I was very excited to see some of my favourite cafe classics on the menu, including HK toast, kaya toast, and teas and coffees with condensed milk. We ordered the roti canai, kaya toast and HK toast to share, and a cup of teh tarik, a Singapore signature hand pulled tea, each. Everything was delicious and satisfied my craving for nostalgia (and good food!). I was a bit confused that the crusts were cut off the HK toast, as this is unusual at least in Hong Kong, but my sister pointed out that bread in the UK is much tougher, so this was probably a very good shout! Didn’t have much interaction with the staff, but we didn’t really need to as they were very efficient and we had no complaints about the food. I’d love to come back during a future visit to Edinburgh to try their coffee and larger main dishes.

Does what it says on the Tin. The staff were really nice. The service was excellent. The food was pretty ok too, but that is for individual pallete I guess, however it is good honest food.

had previously given a good review as when we'd been before it was lovely but our last visit was disappointing. there was only a few people in and our food took forever even though we only ordered 2 pizzas and a garlic bread. the bread took so long we ended up asking for it to go.. eventually after an hour after finishing the pizza we had to leave as our parking was expiring.. we realised the garlic bread was sitting on the counter in a takeaway box but nobody had given it to us. wonder how long it sat there! proper weird a shame as pizzas used to be great but this time, it wasn't worth it at all :(

Myself and three friends stumbled on this lovely place on our way to the Grassmarket. We received a warm, friendly welcome from the staff on arrival and were seated immediately. We chose breakfast items which were all freshly prepared and of high quality. You get good, homemade food and there is plenty to choose from on the menu. We were so impressed that we returned for more on the following day!! Lovely, friendly staff and a very pleasant vibe to the place. Can highly recommend x

My wife and I were in East Lothian for a family event. I found a hotel in Gullane on Tripadvisor. I asked my family for a restaurant recommendation. They did not reply in time. I looked on Tripadvisor and was intrigued by La Potiniere's intimate approach. I was also intrigued by its reviews and thought they were too good to be true, but thought if even if 50% of the reviews were genuine it must be pretty good. I booked and fortunately the night we were there La Potiniere was open and they had a table available for my wife and I. Well, the reviews were right and some! My wife and I have lived and worked around the world, and have been very fortunate to dine in some of the world's top restaurants for business and pleasure. We debated and concluded La Potiniere gets into our Top 10. The food was superb, but so was the intimate, personal, quiet, refined, professional environment and service. It was not pretentious, formal, stuffy nor up its own @r5e unlike many of the top restaurants. It was also excellent value for its quality. We also had the wine pairing to complete the experience. We only saw the Keith part of the Keith and Mary equation, as Mary was creating her magic in the kitchen, however, Keith had just a perfect approach to us as diners service-wise. He was passionate about his restaurant, its food etc and took the time to answer all our questions about how things were prepared, the ingredients used etc. We shall return!
