The best restaurants serving British food in North Hertfordshire East of England

We were really looking forward to coming back to the restaurant as it was so good last year. However, we were so disappointed this time. From the moment we walked into the dining room, the ambience was colder and very loud. We appreciate it was busy but we couldn’t hear each other, let alone the waiting staff. The service was poor, very slow. The gluten-free menu was virtually non-existent - so much so that one of our party felt there was nothing she could eat and she felt that she was being a nuisance. They also got her drink wrong. The pepper pot fell apart on my dinner! The service was very slow. The duck breast main course was only a small portion of duck breast. The prices did not reflect the equivalent dining experience. It was not a pleasant atmosphere at all and such a disappointment. We will not be returning.

Asked server if I could swap the rice for chips, was told by her I wanted extra chips, explained 3 times then she called another server over and said I wanted a curry I said I didn’t want chips and same again, cancelled order and was asked if I wanted the curry still very poor service won’t be eating here again

We stopped off here en route to Luton Airport Lovely garden setting with excellent ales. Even though there was partial renovations going on ,the friendly landlord made his signature pizzas for us which were excellent.

Although very busy the service was quick and friendly . The food was and fresh perfectly cooked excellent for brunch. Coffee was the best ever!

Excellent food from Sonya and excellent service from Shauna (which I’ve probably spelt wrong) Fairly priced for the portion sizes . Such a lovely owner and an amazing smoothie, she really took the time to make sure it was right and had so much pride in her products, my partner drank the smoothie in about 5 minutes it was so nice 😊

I don't have too many issues with the food served here, but the value for money seemed amiss compared to the quality. If you're staying at the hotel this isn't a bad place for dinnder.

The food was great, the company was great, the staff were great, the price was great. The only problem was that they kept opening the fire exist and letting the winter in. We could have done without that.

Without doubt this is the best traditional greasy spoon I've found in Hitchin - a really good generous portion of cooked to order breakfast for just £3.50, superb value.

Great cafe for cyclists, walkers, everyone. Cosy in winter, perfect in summer. Friendly staff, efficient service, quality fare. Excellent.
