We booked Coghlans at Barningham to do some external catering for us for our Wedding at The Blackton Grange Estate, on the 9th December 2024. Andrew and Janet were fantastic!! I would highly recommend the team to anyone needing their services. They were amazing from the point of contact, all the way up to the big day. We had an initial consultation over the phone a few months prior to the wedding, where we sorted out the wedding breakfast and a meal plan for the day before the wedding. This was all sent over via email and a price was agreed. The day before the wedding Andrew came to the venue and dropped off a meal for us to reheat in the oven as we arrived, he brought fresh bread, jams, pain au chocolates and croissants for the morning of the wedding, along with fresh local milk and butter, which was all delicious. On the morning of the wedding, Andrew and Janet arrived promptly and set everything up in the kitchen. They provided all of the crockery, cutlery and table linen and set out the table following our seating plan. Andrew and his team even went the extra mile pouring us some celebratory glasses of bubbles after the ceremony, and then announced us into the dining room, we really weren't expecting them to do any of this for us, but they absolutely pushed the boat out and made us feel so special on the big day. The food was all delicious, a full 3 course wedding breakfast and plenty of extras for those with big appetites. There was more than enough food for all of our guests and everyone commented how tasty it all was. It didn't stop there, Andrew then made sure all of our guests had drinks and kept the wine and bubbles flowing all afternoon, they even went to the trouble of carving my fathers meat up for him as he is disabled. After the meal, Andrew and Janet cleared everything away, including the dirty dishes, and they left the kitchen spotless!! Coghlans also provided a grazing table for the evening, which they left with us. What an absolute credit to the day Andrew and Janet were, they really made our day go without a hitch. We would absolutely recommend Coghlans for a catering service to anyone getting married in this area, you will not be disappointed!! Mark & Anna

We happened across the Tees’Pot by accident after we had visited Low Force for a morning walk so we decided to give it a go. It’s quite basic in appearance and small but in a very quaint way. Please don’t let this put you off going in. After we were seated we all ordered some food the cheese scones and soup (curried vegetable) were very nice. My father in law had two mince pies with cream and he thoroughly enjoyed them. The food was extremely well prepared and filling. The staff are friendly and know their menu well. The prices seemed reasonable for a cafe in a tourist area and I’d go there again if I was in the area.

Called into this very popular pub/ restaurant 10th November after walking along the railway path from Romaldkirk. Sunday service was in full swing and although we were there for drinks only the lunches being prepared looked and smelled delicious! Staff were kind and helpful and the ambience delightful. We were let down by our transport arrangements but when this became known to the staff, help was given to us for our return. Cannot give enough praise. Thank you once again.

The cafe was lovely, very warm and inviting. The food online looks great, it was the perfect pit stop for our travels. The only thing i would say is the portions are quite small, i had the pictured salad and would’ve liked a little something more but the falafel was beautiful.

Staff are so friendly & helpful . This is a great little cafe & deli a short walk from the High Street - well worth the effort . The cakes & coffee are divine . The deli in the adjacent room is well worth checking out- their stock of cheeses made in the north-east is extensive. We will definitely visit again when next in Barney !

Popped in for a bite to eat and a drink. Both dog and baby friendly. Nice and quick for food to come out. Ordered some cheese on toast which wasn’t on the menu for our little one and they very happily sorted this out and provided childrens cutlery and plates.

Excellent atmosphere if you like thinks old. This place dates back to 1690. Quiet location with good car parking. Good food. We had a salad and a pasta that went well together for sharing!

Boxing Day visit for a few drinks. The unsmiling and unwelcoming gilet wearing blonde barmaid knocked the experience when we first approached the bar. (Complete contrast to the friendly staff down the road at the Langdon Beck Hotel) .. However, we quickly recovered and ordered 3 drinks, which came to just over £18 ! That said, the cosy bar area, sitting places and overall feel is a real impressive place. The real fires were lovely and it’s definitely somewhere you could kick back and relax the day/evening away.
