The best restaurants serving British food in Elvet County Durham North East

Just come back from a lovely carvery Sunday lunch. Excellent choice of freshly prepared meat joints and veg, excellent friendly service, excellent value.

Friendly staff but overall extremely slow. 3hrs free parking won't cover 3- courses. Food not worth the prices which is why discounts are always available.

Bill Bryson described Durham as the ‘perfect’ little city. And if you are visiting this city or the county, then it is worth knowing that Chapters Tearooms is the perfect cafe to take a break in. It can be found, about five minutes from the splendid cathedral and castle, in a beautiful Grade II building just before Elvet Bridge. Serving a variety of high quality breakfasts, lunches and vegetarian meals, along with teas, coffee and other drinks. I had an excellent poached eggs on toast with coffee before visiting the ‘Galilee’ in Durham Cathedral. The tearoom has two floors to choose from on colder days; but on warmer days you can sit outside and soak up the ‘perfect’ little city’s atmosphere.

Cathedral cafes all seem the same. Disorganised but worth it in the end. Staff friendly but seemed a tad stressed. Didn’t seem to be adequately staffed. Food very nice and a decent price. Lovely filled rolls and the salad with dressing was so tasty. Scones and tea lovely. Not easy to find a table but perseverance won the day.

Really nice country style pub. Friendly staff and the food was spot on at a great price.

DO NOT EAT HERE!! Was served gone off food absolutely rank of a place and when I informed the manager about it he was more interested in talking to my underage daughter awful service bar staff couldn’t care and the fact this came out of the kitchen is rank!

Stopped here a couple of times for warming hot chocolate. Staff were polite and the toasties were very nice too

Grim. Personal miserable del bar. Inodoros asquerosos, sin luces ni rollos de papel higiénico, sanibinas llenas de botellas y otras basuras. Una recomendación si usted está pensando en ir aquí, utilice otro pub para las necesidades de higiene. Irónicamente la cerveza - Camden ales - estaba bien. Podría haber sido fácilmente una gran visita, pero realmente no lo fue.

El hotel era precioso, sin embargo, el restaurante era pobre - no recomendaría. El personal era amable y sí se llevó dos porciones de patatas fritas de la factura debido a los problemas con la comida. La mayoría de las comidas no estaban calientes para cuando llegaron a nuestra mesa. Dos personas tenían el plato de pescado que dijeron que era muy agradable, sin embargo, no venía con muchas patatas en absoluto. El pollo tikka masala no era realmente un pollo tikka masala (más bien pollo tomate) y un plato de pollo diferente estaba realmente demasiado cocinado.

Ordered two 'Croque Monsieur' and what arrived was two ham and cheese toasties lathered in poor quality English mustard? Why English Mustard? With stale crisps and wilted lettuce. Very poor and given the price quite surprising, especially given that there are numerous much nicer cafés in the city. Staff rather surly as well.
