The best restaurants serving British food in Gateshead North East

We pulled in for lunch before heading back to Essex and what a lovely surprise we had. The decor was very smart and my chicken burger was delicious. However my wife said the Thai Curry was actually the best she had ever tasted.

We ordered the gammon and the home-made stew and dumplings and vegetables. Food was absolutely amazing home-made chips home-made stew home-dumplings The prices were absolutely amazing Definitely return Definitely recommend

Great visit by road after a trip to the angel of the north. Food freshly cooked and excellent, staff really hospitable and kind especially to children, lots of space for the kids. Car parking out the front.

Nice and warm when we went in, table was ready for us, staff were efficient and friendly, food was good, drinks were reasonably priced.

Service from Laura, Abisola and Emma (Thank you very much😀!) made an absolutely positive difference to our unplanned visit as we walked in for food on a busy Sunday afternoon! Food was served promptly to our table...and it was soooo tasty! Half roast chicken with roast potatoes, creamy mash, Yorkshire pudding and other vegetables. Really good value for money. Note: It was very busy and indoor seating might be limited if not reserved or booked in advance.

I was very disappointed with the meal. Ambiance and waiting staff were good (otherwise it’d have been one star) but the ‘turkey crown’ was processed turkey roll or similar, the selection of root veg was just some carrots, there were no sprouts. We asked for the sprouts but the waiting staff were told that there were none left so we’d been given even more carrots. The roasties were chewy and the whole thing was lukewarm. We didn’t get a reduction in price for this. I’d been really looking forward to it, and our group come every year to the Winter Union gig, but we won’t be back next year I’m afraid.

Popped in here for a drink with friends the night before a wedding. I ordered a Guinness, which the young barman nearly threw over us as he put it down with such gusto. The pint was pouring all down the sides of the glass and it hadn't been left to settle like a Guinness should, there was no head on it at all. I said, in a polite manner, that that is not how a Guinness should be served and would it be possible to have another, these things happen with inexperienced staff so I didn't think it would be a problem. He disappeared and an older lady, who I assume was the manager or landlady, approached me from behind and began shouting at me that there was nothing wrong with the Guinness and they weren't going to pour another one as it would be wasted. She was quite unnecessarily aggressive when I was within my rights to request a new Guinness based on how it was served. They wiped the glass and topped it up so it had a head on it, but the whole encounter was bizarre and unnecessary. It's a shame that this happened as the bar has a nice vibe and it made myself and my friends feel very uncomfortable.

Another enjoyable visit to The Baltic today. We also had some lovely food in the cafe - much improved since our last visit. Trout bagel, tuna toasties, blondie and coffees were all lovely and fresh at very reasonable price. Great helpful and friendly staff and service in comfortable airy space. We look fwd to returning soon x

Lovely setting at monkseaton however disappointed with the quality of the Sunday lunches been to cheaper places with better quality should of complained at the time really but it such a lovely little place didn’t want to come across as rude but looking back I should have, beef was tasteless and the veg selection was barely warm.

Tried the pizza and pasta room tonight. It was fabulous. Our grandson was able to do his own pizza helped with the amazing chef Ronnie also with a chefs hat on, he had great fun. Would highly recommend Fantastic service from Stephan and Tara. Will definitely be back. In fact see you on Christmas eve 😊
