Very average we got a tea and scone for two. Came close to 15£ .....which for a cold scone and stewd tea thought was overpriced. You pay seperately for jam and cream ... tiny amount of jam!. Service didnt bother me but some might take as a bit abrupt.

Visited here quite a few times. The food is usually very tasty, well presented and the staff friendly. We must have caught them on an off day today though 🫤 We arrived at 2.50 and found a table. Noticing immediately that hot food was only available until 3.00 my husband went straight to the counter to order, rhyming off the two panini’s, a toasted sandwich and a jacket potato. He was informed there were no more jacket potatoes so I quickly changed my order to a toasted sandwich. By this time it was 2.52 and the lady at the till was not happy. She commented abruptly to my husband that hot food had to be ordered by 3.00, when my husband commented that it was not three yet she glared at him before hollering to the kitchen ‘ Don’t put owt away there’s more food orders’. The food that arrived was slapped together at best, zero point for presentation and my husbands cheese and onion toastie had barely any onion and the cheese had not melted. My parents in law panini’s were okay with proper chunky ham but were beige looking and hardly toasted,my Brie and cranberry toastie was tasty. This same disgruntled member of staff was clearly not happy in her job as she banged and crashed as she cleared tables and muttered and signed under her breath. To be fair, most of the rest of the staff were cheerful and polite but we are our food and made a hasty exit. I don’t think we will be back and if anyone else is going for hot food DO NOT leave it too late or you too stand the risk of public shame, humiliation and sloppy food. P.S The garden centre and gift shops are very good with very helpful and friendly staff.

After completing Ben Nevis, one of our fellow friends became unwell and was unable to to continue to the other mountains to complete the ’Three peaks’ under 24hrs. We see this amazing castle on route back and checked in later that evening. The grounds & facilities are stunning. They where very accommodating with their restaurant menu. We were served with outstanding food and the personal touch especially with the Chef ‘Chris’ who actually came out and presented what we were eating which I thought was a really great touch! He then personally gave us his time to even show us around some of the castle which was a great way to fishing off our night. Our first visit even thou a short stay, I would highly recommend to stay and eat here. Thank you.

This barn was pretty much abandoned the last time I walked this way some 20 years ago. Discovering a walker's cafe was a very welcome surprise. Good cakes, excellent coffee and an excellent variety of local ice cream. Yas was a friendly and polite hostess, who also told is the best vantage point to see Scalehow Force on our walk back to Patterdale. Its isolated location means you're unlikely to go out of your way to visit, but do stop if passing. There are good views over Ullstwater from the outside tables, and welcome shelter inside it it's raining.

A great little country pub with a friendly welcome and super food. I had called in recently to buy a couple of Asby calendars for family in next village. I could see a couple of meals being brought out which looked good so wanted to return. We were pleased we did, the starters were cheese n chilli bites, and garlic mushrooms, both went down well. The mains were hunters chicken with proper homemade chips, really tasty, and others had steak pots again with chips, lots of delicious stewed beef with a puff pastry top. We didn’t all manage a pudding but tried, caramel apple pie n ice cream, and chocolate cake n ice cream, both excellent. I opted for ice cream n chocolate sauce, really good chocolate sauce. We were all stuffed, but in a good way. I spotted the Christmas menu is out at the end of the month so we will need to come again.

Stayed here on the night of the 3rd October! Had dinner and breakfast the following morning. We both had the steak, tasted amazing. Breakfast the following morning was also a success. Our dog joined us in the mezzanine area, which was great. Hotel is very popular, would recommend booking for dinner and breakfast as also very popular. Look forward to eating again at this restaurant. Also had drinks in the bar, lovely area with a roaring fire.

We booked in for a two night stay and on arrival enjoyed a very friendly greeting and an excellent evening meal. the room was very pleasant, Immaculately clean and presented, with everything you may need. Breakfast was very good indeed and served with a smile. The owner and all the staff did everything they could to make us happy and comfortable, again always with a smile. A really happy place. Suffice to say it will be first choice when we are back in the area.

The Outfitters is tucked away in Brough just off the A66 and is well worth a detour if you're heading along that road. We met up for lunch and a catch up with my cousin and it was excellent. Simple menu choices but everything we had was absolutely delicious. Beautiful tartiflette, delightful creamy garlic mushrooms both served with lovely crusty bread, and I chose a burger (home made, excellent) with Stilton and mushrooms, served with fries and a lovely fresh salad. Service from Daniel, front of house, was very friendly and efficient and he was more than happy to chat about the history of the building and the numerous theme nights on offer. The decor is quirky and eclectic and there is a lovely welcoming vibe about the place. Oh, almost forgot...we were unable to resist the rice pud for afters - wonderfully creamy and delicious, served with a dollop of home made jam. Perfection. This is an absolute gem of a place. Very highly recommended and we will definitely be back for more.

We ate here twice whilst stopping at the campsite opposite. Both meals were excellently cooked, very tasty and the portion sizes more than enough. I've knocked off one point purely because on the first night there was only one cask ale available, and the second none at all. Staff were very pleasant and the pub itself a nice, friendly atmosphere.

Called in to get a dessert as we were visiting a friend for lunch and wanted something special. Bought some pieces of cake, which looked nice. Unfortunately, they tasted a bit stale and rather heavy. The buttercream icing was a solid slab. Not at all what we'd been hoping for. We also bought (and were charged for) a sourdough, which turned out to be a standard white loaf when we cut into at home. We won't be back.

We had an excellent afternoon tea for two at Augill Castle. There was a very warm welcome and service. The tea was a very tasty selection of savoury and sweet items, including freshly made scones - and a very nice pot of tea. It was a real treat.
