I am pleased to say that after such a long wait (due to Covid) indoor eating is now available at this excellent eatery. Food, service and location are all excellent and I could not recommend it highly enough Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed 😀

An all round excellent meal with great and humorous service in front of a roaring log fire. Some excellent grouse and partridge and as always the pies were very good although being really picky a little more filling would have gone down even better. I know its sacrilege to critique those world famous pies but as we keep returning we had to find something that was not perfect!

I have been in this restaurant many times and always really enjoyed food and service but not last time. On 5th of November was birthday of my daughter. I thought we could have a good time and good food but… The service was terrible. We have wait to see the waiter around 20 minutes. Then my daughter went to the bar and order the bottle of wine. The menu we talked from the next table. A few minutes later the waitress wearing leggings and t-shirt brought the wine, put on the table and walk away. She didn’t ask if the wine was ok, didn’t open it and said nothing. After we waited another half an hour to be asked what we would like.I have ordered fish pie and my daughter ordered sea bass. What a disappointment? Her sea bass was on dry side with with too much over fried samphire. My fish pie looked and tasted more as chowder. Just bland. In the end we have told staff about our bad experience that evening.

Best Hotel we have eaten at all year! The food was cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and welcoming. They also welcome dogs, and not only do they welcome dogs, but they have an affordable menu for dogs too! The Hotel is under new ownership, and they have obviously brought with them lots of enthusiasm and spent a lot of time and attention on every detail. The rooms have been renovated. They obviously have an amazing chef! I knew from the very first mouthful that this was going to be the best meal I had in 2024! And I was right! It was delicious. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection! And everyone with me felt the same! I definitely have no reservations recommending this hotel/restaurant. 5 stars all round ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟

As a wedding venue this place is amazing. The food, setting, everything for the wedding was perfect. We have a really lovely day. Our problem was the rooms. We had room 4 which has no window to the outside. There is a frosted window to a corridor. No air conditioning or ventilation and a small double bed. This was just horrendous, we got a taxi back to Bolton at 1.30am as we couldn’t sleep. Several of the rooms are the same with no window to the outside. I’m abit claustrophobic so this was just awful. The room needs a king size bed and at least a fan / air conditioning.

The term "gastro pub" is over used and inappropriate for many that I've visited. BUT the Bluebird Inn deserves this title as the food here is superb. Coupled with excellent wines, beers and first class accommodation it is definitely the place to stay for one night or as many as you can. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable too, nothing is too much trouble. Plus there are 2x 150kw EV chargers in the car park. Result!

We have been coming to the Puddleducks for years. The staff are always so friendly and kind, the food and drinks are always lovey and our dog loves the sausages! It’s our favourite place to visit after a long walk. We wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Th ere are some very strange reviews on here as they either seem to be terrible 1 out of 5 or excellent 5 out of 5, with not much in between! Dining out is all about the whole experience and not just the customer service and the quality of the food. On our visit they got a few things right but also many of the simple things weren't up to scratch hence the average score. I booked up for 10 people including 2 children on Boxing Day around 3 weeks prior. I did this on the premises but was told I had to pay £5 deposit per person. I didn't have this on me so I returned home and phoned the following day to pay. Unfortunately, the lady who answered didn't know how to take a telephone payment so told me she'd get the owner to call me. This never happened! The next day I decided to visit the pub again with cash to finally complete the booking which i duly did. All the information was wrote down on a scrap piece of paper and put behind the till which was rather worrying as if it went missing there'd be no evidence of my booking nor the paid deposit. When we arrived our table(s) were ready as 2 had been pushed together, one circular and one rectangular of which the latter was around 4 inches lower than the other??? The initial problem was ordering drinks as I like fruit cider which they didn't do on draught, I then asked for Cruzcampo which was off. My Dad asked for Guinness which was also off, my Mum asked for sparkling wine which they didn't do apart from Prosecco. My partner asked for Cola which when served came out of a bottle and was flat as a pancake. Not a good start! The ordering of the food was easier and came up in a reasonable amount of time given that there were 10 of us. However, by the time the last person received their food the first person was half way through theirs. If we had adopted perfect table manners for each other then many of the dishes would have been cold before the final one arrived. Many of us said that the food was okay without anyone being fanatical about it. However, my daughter said her steak was still pink inside even though she asked for medium to well done. My partner and I has the chicken skewers which comes up in very strange shapes and not cubed as you would expect. My other daughter and her boyfriend had the Turkey dinner which they said was fine apart from the water like gravy. My Dad had soup for starters which he said was cold in places throughout tasting which was equally strange given that 2 others also had it and said it was piping hot??? Was it warmed up in a microwave? Upon payment my daughter told me that everyone would pay their own bill and for easy calculation it would be for the full amounts and the barman would simply give me back the whole deposit at the end of everyone paying. He did not do this and I also forgot about it and had to go the the pub again the following afternoon when they opened to get the deposit back. Overall it was a satisfactory visit but probably not one we will be repeating. My partner and I have been here before with no problems whatsoever so I'm not sure why there was a big difference in the standard.
