Love the pub setting. Cozy place. Great band playing when we visited. BUT THE Southern brew beer is terrible... horrible. 1 star. No -1 star. Unless you enjoy a mix of lysol and cleaning products in a pint. Do not get it. It's sad that the staff didn't want to take this unholy concoction back and replace it with one from the variety of other beers. So... 1 star for the beer 🍺 and 1 star for the service for not honoring feedback from a customer (i hear the pub is owned by Shepherd Neam #corporate so unfortunately the staff probably had to obey the policy, so this is nothing to be held against them they were friendly nice folk). Still worth a visit. Maybe ask for a sampler before you order a pint. 🍻 cheers.

Absolutely love this place! We come to Hastings for the May day run, and always go here. But have also been here anytime we come to Hastings. Went today, just me and hubby, had Haddock and chips, Scampi, chips and salad, food was Amazing ,as usual, and great service! Can't recommend this place enough. If you're in Hastings, this is deffo the Fish and Chips place to go!

Delicious fish and chips in a simple but clean restaurant. No frills which adds to the appeal, a great view right by the fishing boats and a lovely lady serving. Highly recommended.

I came to Hastings for a day out and choose to eat at the mermaid. They had lovely approachable staff and the food was amazing! We ordered a medium fish and chips for the both of us as the portion sizes are massive. We will definitely be coming back to eat here again.

We visited on bank holiday Monday and couldn't work out why it was much emptier than surrounding places- possibly because they weren't doing eat out to help out, however it meant we got a window table. Food was fairly quick to come out and the fish was tasty, the chips were probably a little on the over done side but I like them crispy. Shared bottles of ketchup and tartare sauce- luckily we had brought our own hand sanitiser. Overall fairly decent meal, wouldn't rush back and looking at the huge queues in other places I wonder if other people know something we didn't.

I ordered the French Toast Breakfast, and was given the end piece of the bread. To spend £15 and be given the butt piece for french toast is so strange and can confirm did not taste great as it was like just eating crust. Just disappointing, the quality and service of this place has really started to go downhill.

10 years later and the staff are still rude and miserable.
