The best restaurants serving British food in Shepway South East

Thoroughly enjoyed our unexpected Christmas dinner. We stayed in the hotel room only, so got a special price voucher to get a meal in the restaurant fir a bargain price. We had a seafood starter, followed by turkey and gammon with trimmings. After was a lovely selection of gateau, plus we could have had Christmas pudding. Followed this with cheeses and crackers. A complimentary glass of fizz and not forgetting the crackers and unlimited hot drinks. We were so full, we were burstin ( excuse the pun). Definitely eat here again, even at the full price, as worth every penny.

We visited 9 January 25. The room in the mansion was nice however the heating pipes were so noisy I had problems sleeping. The room was cold and I have to request an additional heater. The staff are just lovely and obliging. The restaurant nearest to the mansion was nice, again cold, had yo eat dinner in my coat and don't even get me started on the 'discretionary ' service charge of 10 % for 2 diners. I find this infuriating, don't they get paid? We have a national minimum wage, just why? No other area are you expected to tip. Do you tip at the supermarket because they are nice? NO. The girl brazenly came over with the card reader and the tip added to the bill without asking and full of assumptions. I wish we didn't pay, but this is what they count on, that you'll feel embarrassed and cheap however, why do they get an extra 10% for bringing me a plate of food and a few drinks. This rip off really needs to stop

We've been many times to the restaurant, but did not realise they also had rooms to stay. We've just tried it with a winter gourmet escape offer and we had such a lovely time! The view from Rocksalt are incredible and both our dinner and the breakfast were excellent. I had the fish and chips and it certainly did not disappoint! Scallops for starer were delicious too. My son ordered the 'build you own' burger and such good portions! Lovely way to rediscover the town and it felt so good to be by the sea. The staff was welcoming, excellent service too. I will definitely come back for brunch another time.

Absolute shambles. Went in before Christmas for a family meal and waited for a while to be served. Gave them the benefit of the doubt as they were busy. But today was an absolute joke waited an hour and 45 minutes for a steak and brisket that never arrived. The restaurant wasn't even busy with plenty of empty tables. I will never go there again. Totally under staffed in the kitchen and the waiting staff haven't got a clue. Ridiculous.

great food, came out quick! did go up to pay where the table next to us had a person come take their order... other than that its brilliant

After a long 2hour dog walk, 4 hoomans & 5 bassets , we visited here for a fantastic Sunday lunch, food was absolutely delicious, I had the beef and it was so tasty & tender, others in my group had the pork and they found it delicious too! Cauliflower cheese was included with the beef and it was so tasty, highly recommend Will definitely be returning 😃❤️

The food is lovely and the drinks are not too badly priced the staff are very friendly and it's a very friendly place with a nice size garden for kids to let off some stream and run around safely with a fantastic open fire in the winter and shows all the sporting channels.

After being let down by another pub on the day of my daughter’s 21st birthday the black horse accommodated 18 people for a lovely meal at such short notice. The staff here went above and beyond to make sure that we had a lovely evening. The food was one of the best meals we have had and very reasonably priced. I want to thank you again for turning a disaster into a lovely evening to help us celebrate and we will definitely be back for a roast dinner in the new year

First time here ,waitress lovely however being gf was amazed when getting carvery of cross contamination,even when I told the server she done exactly the same thing again had I not seen it with my own eyes I could of become ill ,used the sausage tongs to hold meat ,shame has carvery was amazing even got a gf Yorkie and gravy and yes I did also inform other staff so just a heads up .

Could have done with the tomato sauce for the calzone to place over the top other then that was good

We popped in for a drink before we could book into our caravan. We went furthest away from people as we have a big dog and we're eating. But they were welcoming, and the size dog we have didn't seem to bother them. Thank you.

Food was lovely service excellent and a home from home atmosphere will definitely be returning

This hotel has now changed hands to new owners. My original review was based on the previous owners despicable behaviour on four in a bed but they no longer manage or own this hotel.
