Mediocre, at best, but no competition in the nearby area means it will always have some fairly steady trade (especially when hotel guests from the Parsonage are sent there). Food was okay, young waiting staff were pleasant enough, and I appreciate Guinness Zero being available at the bar, but the gentleman who loitered around, either a manager or some kind of head maître d', was almost laughably Basil Fawlty-ish in his obvious discriminatory treatment of people he viewed as either "the right sort" or "common diners". Welcomed on way in by young girl tending bar, allowed to dine early, absolutely nothing directed our way on way out after drinks and food paid for. A quick way to make the atmosphere seem unwelcoming and slightly chilly, because the last impression is as important as the first. Next time I'm at The Parsonage I will happily just drive into York for a better selection of food/management styles.

We came across this lovely pub after going for a walk around Skipwith Common. We were welcomed in by friendly staff and they found us a table even though we hadn’t booked. The bar areas is as nice as the restaurant and there was a gorgeous fire to warm us up. There was plenty to choose from on the menu and we went for the pigs in blankets starter and onion bahjis starter. They were both fantastic and served after some fresh bread and butter. We went for the sharing steak board for mains and it was cooked to perfection! The steak sauces were peppercorn and blue cheese which is exactly what we would have chosen! My partner had plenty of beers to choose from and there were so many gins. We were so happy we popped in and will absolutely be coming back again. Thank you so much for a lovely meal.

We visited today as a family for lunch, the food was very nice, couldn’t fault it at all. The service however was very slow. The gentlemen who served us was very prompt and friendly, however the lady with the short silver hair serving needs to smile and greet customers in a more friendly manner and look as if she’d actually like to be there.

We have not been for a long time as the three horse shoes went down hill. We gave it a try because it is under new management/ownership. What a difference. The new couple have only been in a couple of months. Now cleaner ,Very friendly and the food 10/10 and not expensive Some of our party had the beef pie ,another the cheese burger and another fishcake and chips .Everything was so tasty. It is wonderful to have a local worth going too

Straight off the bat - the dinner and breakfast was included in our room rate. If we actually had the pay the prices on the menu (£30 a main) then I'd probably have a dimmer view of the place. And certainly I wouldn't travel here and eat here if you aren't staying at the castle. But for a place to eat on a nice couples break at the castle it does the trick. The food is good, though not amazing. On breakfast, you order the cooked English Breakfasts items you want, and then you can select from a small continental buffet of cereals, yoghurt, croissants etc. Main issue was that the "vegetarian option" advertised on the menu was simply not ordering the bacon and sausages! Apparently they do usually have a vegetarian alternative.

I have previously visited before they change management, and won't be returning after today's vist. Arrived at 12 45pm, was queuing for over 15 minutes as service was so slow. Finally got to till to be told by a miserable member of staff with no smile on her face that they have stopped serving food, no sign anywhere saying the time they stop food service to avoid people queuing for no reason, unles there just having drinks. She then said abruptly "are you having drinks or not." At which point I walked out and won't be returning!
