Had a delicious lunch. Was too busy eating to take good pics. Loved the whole experience of the food being cooked at the table. The beef was delicious as was everything we had. Especially loved the prawns, chicken wings and bbq veggies. 50% off on most dishes until next week. Definitely worth a visit. Very good service.

Review written on 7 October 2021: I have been a customer of AtariYa in Kingston for many years ever since the shop originally opened, but my visit yesterday with a friend was most disappointing. In fact, we were so disgusted that we walked out. My friend and I were both wearing masks. I have a Japanese family and I have lived, worked and travelled widely in Japan for over 45 years and have friends who run top quality sushi restaurants in Tokyo and Narita so I do know proper Japanese food. My first disappointment was the lack of sushi Bento boxes. Previously, there has always been a really good selection of excellent quality all freshly made but on this visit there was very little on display and all looking rather dull. Apart from the lack of stock, possibly caused by the present worldwide delivery problems, I was disappointed to see items which appeared to be Japanese but were not actually made in Japan. That is extremely misleading. Inspection of some of the nori seaweed packets showed that they were produced in China, similarly, some items in the freezer which were made in Vietnam. I asked the male fishmonger (not Japanese) behind the sashimi counter about this but got no answer. Of course it is not impossible to produce good quality food which is not made in its original country but I go to a Japanese food shop to buy genuine Japanese food, not food produced somewhere else. I do not eat anything from China because I do not trust their production methods due to at least one scandal in Japan involving the use of pesticides on imported Chinese products. At the sashimi fish counter at the rear of the shop there seemed to be a much smaller selection than there used to be. I ask the male fishmonger, in Japanese, for a particular fish but he didn't understand me so I repeated just the name of the fish (shime saba) and he did point to the correct fish. However, although he was wearing a mask, it was pulled down, thus exposing his nostrils. A female staff member then appeared, also wearing a mask but also not covering her nose. I asked both of them why their masks were not correctly positioned but they just smiled (I don't know why) and pulled the masks up to cover their noses but it was too late. I told them that it was disgusting to be breathing all over raw fish while the Covid pandemic is still continuing but there was no proper reply from either. These two staff members were not Japanese and the very nice Japanese gentleman who has always previously run the fish counter was not present. Two English men then came in and looked at the sushi bento items but neither was wearing a mask even while leaning over the products. The products were in plastic boxes but that is not the point. It is absolutely unimaginable that any Japanese person, either customer or staff, would lean over any food, particularly raw food, in a virus pandemic without wearing a proper mask. In Japan, staff who are preparing food in public view normally wear masks, gloves, hats and a proper uniform but, of course, this is England. I absolutely cannot imagine what Japanese people think of such low standards. I complained once before about the poor attitude of an English staff member in this shop and received an apology from AtariYa. Obviously, poor hygiene is even more important so I will be writing again to the AtariYa management. It is very important that shops purporting to be Japanese do actually give a proper good impression of their products. Very few non-Japanese people have any idea what real Japanese food is and what I saw in the shop yesterday was simply not acceptable. Other reviewers on this site have made similar criticisms. I will never go to this shop again. Nor will my friends.

My partner has been a number of times with clients and said we should try it. I was underwhelmed. The staff do not listen. We order about 6 dishes and I told the waiter I did not want them all together but one or two at a time. Seems they couldn't follow simple instructions and brought all the dishes out together. What was really disappointing that the hot dishes were at best luke warm so had been hanging around the kitchen for ages before being sent to the table. The restaurant was a third full on a Friday which if my experience was typical it probably explains why.

Nice dinner, I had salmon ramen but i wish I’d taken a meaty one just because the salmon was bit bland. Sushi rolls were big and delicious. Also tried the wakame salad and mixed tempura(wished there was more seafood). Good quality and lovely staff.

Bao where great but a very small portion. The sharing plates where all instantly forgettable unfortunately. All food arrived cold or cool at best. Previously visited at Spark and thought it was far better (Bao and Ramen on a few occasions). Total bill felt overpriced for the amount of food served. Disappointed overall.

I was really disappointed with the service at this restaurant this evening... it's advertised on tastecard with an offer of 2 for 1... however when we arrived we had a point blank 'the manager says no'. Now I understand there may have been a misunderstanding, but it was handled poorly and on principle we left. I was really disappointed as i really fancied sushi and I'm sure the food is delicious?! It's not about the money it's the principle... Don't advertise your restaurant on a 2 4 1 offer then not honor it? And if there is an issue offer a gesture of good will and management deal with it, don't send your poor waiter over with a message.

So firstly I should say that I’ve ordered from this restaurant before and eat inside; however I (and my wife) noticed the difference with the food quality over a year ago and due to this being a pricey restaurant we couldn’t take any more risk. So fast forwarding to today we’ve decided to give them another go and man oh man it was DISAPPOINTING a total of £48.50 and i collected the food only to get home and there’s only 1 set of chopsticks and 2 sachets of soy sauce and the wasabi’s is so tiny but ok maybe the food will redeem all of that we thought… wrong 😑 WRONG … the food was disappointing in every way even the rice I got tasted old .. I wouldn’t recommend this place as it stands to anyone.. it’s costly and not worth it even if it was cheaper… too bad because I really use to enjoy eating from there.

This has been one of our favourite places for cookies, coffee, and an occasional lunch, for a few years. So we were very happy to find they are open some evenings now too. They did not disappoint!!!
