I was delighted to receive a Voucher for Afternoon Tea for 2 people at John Watts. The Staff were OK but not particularly friendly or welcoming .. not a good start ! We were given a menu & were asked to choose a Sandwich each & a Scone each. The Tea & Sandwiches/Scones arrived promptly, the Sandwiches were freshly made but were served with no trimmings ie Salad, Coleslaw, Crisps (as the menu stated) We opted for the Raspberry & Vanilla Scone, it was hard & dry looking, when cut open it there was no sign of Raspberries & it was a strange grey colour ... very strong Vanilla taste rather than Raspberry ! Not pleasant - luckily we had Jam & Clotted Cream to take away the taste ! Not one member of staff returned to our table to ask if everything was OK, if we needed our tea topped up etc A most disappointing experience, as this is one of the oldest Coffee Shops in Carlisle I expected old fashioned friendly service - NOT the case - sorry to say we won't be back & certainly wouldn't recommend 😕

Their food was delicious along with the first class service that we received. We will definitely go back again in the future.

We went in at 11.45am lunch period to find only a handful of options to choose from, however once I chose the woman was so rude and unwelcoming, no smile, no customer service what so ever. Before grilling my panini the woman serving me grabs a tissue and dry mops all of the grease and muck left from whomever had a panini last and leaves it on the side. And standing 2 ft behind clearly seeing thick grease still thick smothering the top of the grill. While waiting for my lovely greased panini The woman serving and her colleague making no interaction what so ever, made you feel very unwelcoming. Both of the ladies just stood playing on their phones in front view of all customers. I would not recommend this to anyone. Greasy, dirty, unwelcoming staff

I just had an absolutely brilliant burger here, and my daughter loved her chicken tenders and milkshake too. Great food, the service was really fast and laid back, matching the comfy casual ambience of the restaurant perfectly, with excellent tunes throughout. A*, 10/10! Ps Google is a bit naff for guiding to the door, and there are currently major works on the path outside, but persevere and you will be rewarded...

Old style public house which is next to Cathedral. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Service is not bad either. Serving local ales and some bottles as well as spirits.

Saturday 18th December 2021 I visited this propper old-fashioned real ale public house There were ample real ales on, and the beers were locally brewed, and the atmosphere was excellent. The staff are helpful and all in all a must to visit for real ale when in Carlisle Satur This great real ale pub has many smashing great hand pumped real ale pub is a must to visit when here The landlord is a proper dry, humoured top banana This landlord is my cup of tea I give this pub 6 out of 5👍😁😁😁 Saturday 18th January 2025 Yet again, we came into this fantastic real ale pub This through roomed wooden floored pub was a fantastic inner drinking place to drink the lovely lakeside ales on offer today in this great pub The landlord has been here for a humongous amount of years, and he is a legend with his dry, diverse sense of good humour🤣 Whe come to Carlisle drinking real ales this pub is an essential visit to drink in

Fantastic place, bar staff very friendly. Very cheap drink and always get a good beer, never taken one back yet. Karaoke usually on a Friday and Sunday evening. Usually very busy. Don't sell food unless you want crisps etc. Toilet for disabled.

Nice service but not the cleanest. Sat on the sofa which had a dip in the middle and had lots of crumbs down the side which really put me off my drink and would be reluctant to buy food.

friendly staff. quick to serve. delicious food. and great decor. what else could you wish for? nothing! after a long walk, I reached this little cafe in hopes of a hot drink, and they definitely delivered! a wonderful selection of hot drinks was provided, and an array of lunch and an all-day breakfast menu! I recommend the french toast, it was delicious! overall, it was reasonably priced and a successful pit stop in our journey! and, for the little ones on a nice day, there is a park just outside! if the opportunity we're to arise, I will definitely come again.

Loved the venue but the food was not stunning. The 'special' open prawn sandwich was over priced and needed a bit of finesse in the presentation as it was a load of frozen prawns dumped on two huge slices of bread that 99% of the population could have produced. The cheese & cranberry quiche although ordered as 'warm' was cold and pretty solid with a thin filling not worthy of the price tag. Maybe the staff need to visit other cafes to see their expertise and presentation skills.
