Came to the queens head for breakfast before heading to Chester for the day Great breakfast and amazing staff that looked after us throughout our visit, would definitely recommend this place wish we were more local to go more often!

We went here for a couple of drinks before going out to eat and weren't disappointed. Based on a recommendation for real ale we looked it up and drove in from the Holiday Inn at Runcorn to sample the ale. It's a small, rather quirky place about the size of your front room and pretty popular as there was hardly any free seating. They have a great range of ales which were well poured and charmingly served. 😍

Traditional and historic bistro type venue serving great and reasonably priced food in chester city centre. Good staff with delish deserts.

We have eaten here a few times now with our little dog, staff very friendly, there are obvious signs about the parking with a tablet at the bar to enter your reg number, the pin is displayed next to this. Good range of food quickly served, twice when we came they were recovering from disastrous floods so the menu was slightly limited, the food was still good though. Lovely setting to sit out by the river and regular entertainment at weekends. Keep it up Red Lion!

Called in for lunch while out for a walk. Never told of possible delay with food, so ordered a baguette & a fish & chips and 2 drinks. The beer wasn't right so it had to be changed, they hadn't pulled any beer off a new barrell, before serving it. Both drinks were the most expensive we have paid locally, ever, the other drink was a glass of wine. We sat and waited & waited & waited for our food, no communication, not unless we asked & then kept getting told, he's a young chef, should be with you in about 10/15 minutes, after an hour of waiting, we gave up and asked for a refund, which we got but only for the food!!! Felt sorry for the woman behind the bar, who was new, she had been left on her own & had to be talked through the refund process over the phone as she hadn't been fully trained. We will definately NOT be going back and we weren't they only people complaining and getting refunds.

1 toilet? Seriously? Get it sorted

Use this cafe regularly and decided to bring friends who were visiting from the Midlands, excellent drinks and nice staff.

Positives: nice decor and friendly staff. Scottish breakfast tasted nice. Negatives. No kids menu so ordered beans and cheese on toast and just beans on toast for a 9 and 3 year old. Arrived as one slice of toast and half a can of beans each with one slice of cheese on one. Both cost the same even though we asked for a kids portion. So for £17.90 we got 2 slices of bread, a tin of beans and one cheese slice. Bizarre price tag for what you got - you would expect a decent main meal in a restaurant for that. However nice experience, just possible needs price review on some of the menu items and possible a kids version.

Called in here For a breakfast, it looked busy, so the signs were positive. I had a cooked breakfast, it was fantastic, not a hint of grease, and every element was packed full of flavour. The coffee was equally superb. Definitely call in again, very reasonably priced as well

Used to love coming here and have been for years, but I have noticed a decline in quality and in service. Today really was the final straw. After trying to correct an order which was brought to us wrong I was made to carry around our plates of food to and from the kitchen whilst the staff watched as they couldn’t be bothered to do it themselves. The lady who I kindly asked to help correct the order was nothing but cold and rude. The food itself has come to the same quality as Wetherspoon's but for 3x the price. Most of the food looked as if it’d been sat out in a buffet and definately wasn’t fresh. As I say I’m really dissapointed due to how fab it used to be but will not be returning due to how I was treated today.

They crossed out one of my items on my receipt, didn’t deliver it and I still paid for it. Poor from them No note to say why they couldn’t give me my main item - I wouldn’t have gone there for the other 2 items Very very poor service - extremely dissatisfied Would like a full refund but not even given the option Ordered through JustEat - this is a Pret error, not just eat so don’t just fob me off to them

We stopped as a party of 8 in Tarporley for an impromptu lunch and found this gem of a place! The staff could not have made us feel more welcome and were so attentive! We all ate different foods and I am gluten free and was served a delicious lunch. The whole party enjoyed the experience . Thank you !
