Been in quite a few times now since moving to Shrewsbury. It’s a proper British boozer with so many quirks- wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea I imagine but there is something quite special about it Shame they don’t do food here but there is a good sandwich shop round the corner in butchers row and the landlord and staff seem happy enough for you to bring it in as long as your buying drinks which to me is a fair deal… Been drinking the hobgoblin (very decisive ale) and the directors. The line up on taps wouldn’t be my first choice, you can tell it’s linked to a brewery. I love the little rooms they have dotted around the place- the ex ‘gentleman only’ snug, which has an amazing nostalgia and if walls could talk! Love sitting in here. I’m summary- great little pub, shame about no pub food (sandwich doesn’t cut it sometimes especially in this weather) and there are better venues for beer/ ale and ipa lovers. But still great.

This is a lovely space and has bags of potential - and past visits have been good. But visiting on a very quiet Saturday evening I was disappointed to see staff just chatting amongst themselves, rather than making us feel welcome and asking what we’d like. We had to attract the attention of the staff - and they were right by us!! Really poor customer service - let a lovely bar down.

Place looks nice inside, but it looks inspired from any other independent coffee shop in Shrewsbury now. Service is good, al happy and eager to help and to make your moment there a pleasant one. But the food... the food is bland, no choices and very, very pricey for what it is! Rating.."Meh" 😧

Notice there haven't been any reviews here for some years. When we visited in July 2023 the menu consisted of three choices of pannini filling and some "tray bakes" that looked like they had been sitting around for a while. That was it. We ordered pannini. Although we chose to sit down to eat they arrived in a brown paper bag. Although we were the only people in the cafe it took some time for them to be microwaved and they got one order wrong. I don't think I've ever had such poor quality food. The pannini were just rolls with some lines on top and the fillings were sparce and unpleasant. And these cost us £6 each. They should either put the effort in to make this a good place to meet and eat or throw in the towel and just have a vending machine; they'd probably make more money.
