The best restaurants in Tendring East of England

Had a lovely roast dinner served by Frankie who was polite and friendly. Lovely desserts made by Lucy The Manager will definitely go again

My wife and myself enjoyed a wonderful lunch, which was - in complete contrast to the previous negative comment - served by friendly, happy, smart staff. The food was hot, and perfectly cooked. The cafe was clean, and the price was extremely reasonable. This was our first visit to Freds Cafe, but certainly will not be our last - we were both highly impressed. (Maybe the writer of the previous negative comments - Aine - should maybe ponder if THEY were the problem? Certainly we found that the staff here could not have been more pleasant or welcoming. My experience here was quite disappointing. It took an unusually long time just to get my order taken, and when it finally arrived, it was wrong. I paid £7.95 for a wrap, only to have the wrong item (Ciabatta) unceremoniously plopped on the table by a waitress who simply stomped off. I don’t enjoy leaving negative feedback, but in this case, I feel it’s well justified due to the poor service I encountered from start to finish. Sadly, these issues aren’t unique to my visit; they seem to reflect the experiences of many other reviewers.

Don’t take card, either they’re on the fiddle or want their business to fail, who doesn’t accept card payments in 2024 ?? Rude staff… The chap who seemed to be either the manager or at least senior enough, verbally confronted me across the premises when I said jokingly I’d have a word with the Pier management about the Chip shop not accepting card payments - he said ‘What are they gonna do?’ Obviously this chap had not had the best day that day, or, he doesn’t have a great working relationship with the Pier management. Anyhow, his loss, there’s other places to buy chips in Clacton. I won’t be spending my cash there again.

I always take my Nan here on a weekend when I visit her. She is in a care home just up the road with severe dementia and this is the only place I feel safe taking my Nan, as I know everyone is so lovely and understand the situation. They are patient whilst she decides what she'd like, friendly with her and chatty when she is in the mood and so so kind. It is the only place I will go now for lunch with Nan, I cannot thank the team here enough, incredible food, great value for money and the best customer service I've experienced I can honestly say. Thank You all so much x

Went to Pizza hut with friends. Have to say disappointed, got seated by someone in jeans and t shirt who looked like a guest, with no introduction of who he was. He mumbled something about drinks machine not working and to order at the table. We ordered the buffet on the app, it gave us the option of leaving a tip. But we chose not to just for someone to bring over glasses for us. We had to wait for pizzas to be bought out. They hadn't cooked enough for the amount of people in the restaurant. The salad bar wasn't topped up and it was 12.15 when we got there. The Nachos were stale. Very disappointed indeed. Think we'll give it a miss next time.

Been a local in the area for years, was my favourite pub. But today it was a total mess can’t even call it an establishment. The staff are lovely but when there’s about 10-15 people right outside lighting fireworks and being hosted by the pub where the is also alpacas 10 feet away from the fireworks and other animals. It’s a disgrace to the community and also the poor animals. Real shame. Owner turned into a complete sell out. Never visiting again.

Cosy place, good for the dogs you even get the space, service a little slow and unattentive but food was fine and otherwise good

Disappointing. I gave them a second chance as they used to be fantastic. Unfortunately still not good. I have no words for the vegetable mini rolls 🥺. Now looking for a new Chinese takeaway.

Lovely place, great food and attentive staff. Highly recommend! Kids eat for £1. The garden centre in also great, well stocked with knowledge, friendly staff!
