The best restaurants in Northumberland North East

I called her on the way back from a solo hike with my dog, I had the most delicious egg and bacon sandwich, a very big sandwich but the food was quality food, the service was friendly and speedy. I took a biscoff cheesecake away with me and it was amazing. Lovely little cafe I can’t recommend enough. Great prices too.

A gem. We stumbled across this café and couldn't have been happier with our food and service. Will definitely be back. Beautiful walks nearby along the river and saw Roman wall. You won't be disappointed.

We went for a family dinner, our first since the pub’s kitchen has reopened. Excellent food. We had a tapas selection starter and then had a variety of main courses (lobster, burgers and burritos). Really tasty. generous portions and great service. Would highly recommend and look forward to going again soo.

Came across this gem looking for lunch. We had the crab sandwiches which were delicious - just perfect. Noticed they did fish and chips and lobster and chips but only on two days of the week. And it was first come first served until they ran out. So went back to try the haddock and chips. Awesome. Best fish I have ever tasted - no batter, just grilled with lots of butter. Owner explained that he only used fresh locally caught fish and only when he could gets it off the local boats. It shows!!

The Hemmel is NOT CLOSED It is OPEN and serving really delicious homemade food which is served by lovely friendly staff.

If you are in the vicinity of Allendale and looking for a meal go here. Some of the best Indian I have ever had. In a reclaimed factory area, modern, bright and clean. Exceptional

Went for afternoon tea with 2 friends in one of Circa's vintage caravans. Food was lovely and plentiful. Staff were delightful and friendly. The wonderfully eclectic shop is guaranteed to have something for everyone. Highly recommend and will definitely be back

We have been here a few times and find the service quite hit or miss. We dropped in this weekend with the intention of having a coffee and a light lunch. The waitress said we could sit wherever we liked. All the booths were taken accept one with a few dishes on from the people before us, so we sat there… we waited for a good ten minutes and watched as the waitress cleared other empty tables around us and walked past us several times. At this point, guests were seated behind us, welcomed and drinks order taken, still no drinks for us and still sitting with other people’s crumbs. We summoned our patience and waited some more trying to catch the waitresses eye, again, she walked straight passed us and we were just left. After half an hour of zero service we just upped and left. Sad, as the venue is lovely and has all the makings of a great place. I could understand if it was busy, but there was only around 5 tables seated. We took our business to the cafe next door and will likely not hurry to return.

A Christmas treat! A very friendly, comfortable dinning room with fantastic views. Delicious food, good sized portions, well presented. Must try the Christmas menu, seafood cocktail or haggis bon bons for starter and of course delicious turkey. Although all the other options looked delicious too. Great selection of deserts to follow. A real gem, cant wait to try the Sunday lunch venue in the new year.

So wanted to visit here with my aunt and cousins visiting from New Zealand and could not because you are not dog friendly. I am sure you would find dogs are better behaved than a lot of children. So disappointing

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst walking Hadrian’s Wall and visiting Vindolanda for a day. We had a fantastic stay. Huge rooms, very friendly staff and a central location, including the AD122 bus stop being just by the hotel. Food was wonderful, including the best breakfast menu we saw on this trip. My daughter is vegan and they had a great selection of items she could eat. Sunday lunch was excellent. Highly recommended.

Expensive food where the quality does not meet the price point. Lasagne- not impressed at all, oven chips for restaurant prices and overall just not a great experience. We wouldn’t return. We also ate in the bar and it was so warm that we had to leave.
