Popped into Melvyn’s for a quick bite at lunch time. We had soup and a toastie and eggs Benedict. The food was outstanding and the service exemplary. Having eggs Benedict on a cheese scone is an inspired twist on a classic and I’ll be trying to replicate at home. Great flat white too. We’ll be back for sure.

Absolutely delicious lunch of hearty lasagne, so good that I asked for another portion rather than having a desert. The rest of us all enjoyed our meals too, and the lemon sponge cake was reported as delicious too. Plenty of tables, but place does get busy and can be a significant queue at times, which gets slowed by a rather slower drinks section. Lovely views. Nice local walks. Conveniently situated just off the A 68 / A696 routes to the Scottish Borders and Edinburgh. Good "outdoors" shop too. Staff are friendly. The place serves classic warming crowd pleasing hearty meals fr a reasonable price.

On Saturday, the 1st, we visited your café for refreshments after participating in Parkrun and enjoying a sea dip. While the café was understandably busy, likely due to the influx of other runners, it was a testament to your establishment’s popularity. Unfortunately, our experience was not as enjoyable as we had hoped. Upon arrival, we were informed by a waitress that moving chairs was obstructive. While her point was valid, the delivery of her message came across as curt and unwelcoming, which left a poor initial impression. Our orders were subsequently taken by a younger waitress, who was attentive, polite, and friendly; exactly the type of service one hopes for. However, when our food and drinks began arriving, the interaction with the older waitress wearing glasses was markedly different. Two coffees were brought out when only one had been ordered, which seemed to frustrate her. Additionally, when the white Americano was tasted, it was clear it wasn’t correct. Upon politely providing feedback, the waitress insisted it was correct and initially declined to rectify the situation, only after asking for it to be changed was it taken away. The member of our party said it clearly wasn’t a white Americano and the waitress muttered, “yes it is” as she walked away. Eventually, the coffee was replaced, but not without a remark that it might take some time due to a lack of clean mugs. The table we were seated at had not been cleared prior to our arrival, leaving me to tidy it myself to create space. The dishes I set on the windowsill were still there when we left. While the food itself was enjoyable, the overall experience was overshadowed by the demeanour of the waitress with glasses. It’s understandable that the café might not have anticipated such a busy New Year’s Day, but as the business was open, a consistent level of service is to be expected. We were the party of four adults seated at the round table by the window, with our children at two nearby tables along the back wall. The attitude of the aforementioned waitress not only made us feel uncomfortable but also unsettled the children. We hope this feedback is taken constructively. A small adjustment in communication and attentiveness could greatly enhance the experience for future customers.

Just had a lovely family meal, the service was very good and all the food was top notch. The price was excellent for what we received. The atmosphere was very friendly and bustling. We will definitely be back.

So it’s been a while since our last visit. I want to say around two years. It wasn’t the best. Today we decided to go as it’s local to us and wanted to see if anything had changed. Not expecting much, boy were we surprised. It was the tastiest meal we have had when eating out. Took a while to be served but at this time of year it’s to be expected. Anyway I had fish chips and mushy peas. The chips were cooked to perfection. The fish… unsure if it may actually have been a whale. Half expected it to swim away and I would have to spear it back. It was delicious, big and fell apart nicely. The mushy peas deffo had the desired effect. My husband had steak and chips. Again, cooked to required taste. He likes medium rare and it stayed where it should have. Didn’t run off. The desserts… oh my god…. When can I go back? Absolutely amazing food. We will be back

Called in for lunch. Staff were great, including the owner. Our dog was made very welcome. The sandwiches with chips were fantastic, loads of filling and no skimping on the crab, ham and fishfinger. Will definitely call again when in the area.

Many thanks to Simon, Sarah, and Gang for a fantastic stay. We arrived a little early after a very long drive. Simon let us into our room and gave us a Happy Anniversary balloon 🎈. Which was such a lovely touch. Room 5 was very clean and tidy, and it has everything you could want. I enjoyed a lovely soak in the bath before dinner, which was fabulous 👌... We had drinks in the bar & a lovely meal. Always a bonus when vegetarians are catered for. 😃 The macaroni cheese was yummy. My hubby had gammon, eggs, and chip which he said it was excellent. Lots of choice on the menu and such a great atmosphere. We slept really well and had a wonderful breakfast before leaving. Lots of choices, cereals, juice toast, and a cooked breakfast. All served piping hot & cooked to perfection. We can't thank you enough for your making us feel so welcome ☺️

We had a table of ten booked for Easter Sunday lunch only to find out (from a friend) the evening before that they are closed due to a power cut. I understand that these things happen and it is beyond their control but they didn't even ring to inform us directly. We have family that have travelled 3 hours from Scotland for this. Absolutely terrible customer service!

Eat here quite regularly if we can get a table. Always delicious fresh sandwiches and tasty blue cheese scones. Coffee is decent too. No complaints. Staff are very pleasant.

I'm on record as having said on many occasions that if they awarded PhDs for scone-tasting, I should have a dozen. I've eaten scones in venues from the Orkney Islands to Australia and written about them in more publications than I could possibly remember. So, you can take my word for it that the freshly-baked, home-made scones (with butter and strawberry jam) at No.6 are quite possibly the best I've tasted in recent years. Cafe No 6 is a quaint place with a very atmospheric first-floor eating area, a delightful owner and staff who look like they are actually enjoying the job they do. My wife and I were just as impressed with the special 'doggy menu' on offer. We shall be back!

What an unwelcoming, miserable place. We stopped en route to Berwick but it was so grim looking we had a change of heart before even getting out the car and drove off. Later that day on the way home we were desperate for a cup of tea and having read the reviews which said it's not as bad as it looks, we decided to give the place a try. We arrived at 3.35pm having checked the website and Google for opening times. Both said open until 5pm. We walked into the shop, not a soul to be seen but voices from the back could be heard. We coughed , said hello a couple of times but no one came out. We walked through to the next room adjacent to the door into the tearoom. All in darkness. But I spotted a lady through the window of the door into the kitchen and she spotted me but didn't move. She was too busy talking to her colleague. She looked at me 3 times before finally coming out and when I asked if we could get a cup of tea she said they'd stopped serving at 3.30pm. It was 3.40 at this point. All we wanted was a cuppa. Appalling service, not a smile or an apology in sight. And no information online with café opening times. Businesses like this don't deserve to be in business.

Very disappointed no atmosphere felt cold, got there at 9 mins to 2. Albeit food till 2pm wanted soup and sandwich but was told the chef had already closed the kitchen. I had a black tea which had a coffee taste. Husband had a pint which was cloudy and of poor quality. Would avoid this place at all costs. Everything you don't expect in a pub.
