We where staying in slaley hall loges for my husbands 70 th birthday so decided to eat in the restaurant in the hall.Had nice round table but it all went down hill from then first thing you notice is cheap cutlery and glasses.there where 7 of us ding six had starters all of them where okay.Main courses Crispy roast belly pork nice belly pork served with a hard lump of fat not crispy. Two had rib eye which they said where tasty. One had sea bass nice but on the small side.My husband I opt for baked cod with tomato sauce. The cod was a small bit of dried out fish with a sauce that tasted like tinned tomatoes. The fishmongers was obviously closed. They tend to serve everything in small soup bowls for portion control.Desert only 2 had them one was okay I had the apple crumble with custard in the tiniest jug I have seen. The waiter in all Fairness was really nice. When he asked if everything was okay and we told him.He said he would report to the manager. He came back and said he would knock a bottle of wine off the bill.No manager appeared just left the waiter with no explanation.we where not looking for a free bottle of wine. For the standard of the hotel the restaurant lets the place down.We told them when we booked 3 weeks ago it was for a special birthday there was no recognition of this

Oh dear! Big mistake to call at this cafe for a cup of afternoon tea and a scone. Very quiet at 3.15pm as only one table occupied, no staff in sight but soon one of them turned round and seemed less than pleased to see a customer interrupting what she was doing. I had been looking forward to a scone and jam, but there were only 2 left and looked as though they had been twice-baked. I asked for tea with semi-skimmed milk, to be told we only have full fat milk. I determined to make the best of what was supposed to be a treat, and retreated to a table. The cup of tea tasted awful but I was thirsty, and the scone crumbled to bits when I tried to cut it and had obviously had the life cooked out of it. Does M&S actually read any of the feedback on here? Standards are clearly not being met and the shop manager clearly needs to be made aware.

We didn't play golf, but did pop in to get a few drinks from their bar and to sit on their benches by the gold course. Bar was quiet, and the staff were pleasant.

We was celebrating a birthday in a group of 7 women. The place was beautiful, clean, spacious and well cared for. We had an amazing party in the massive kitchen. The living room is huge and stunning. The bedrooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, with comfy beds. We also went to the pub below, the locals was so friendly and the bar staff was outstanding.

Meals are quality but 20% too expensive to elsewhere. Shame, as this is a lovely 'newish' place with a lot of potential. Items in the shop are also more expensive than elsewhere and suspect customers will not return except just for a coffee and cake as good place to meet. The 'warehouse' eating area is very echoey...perhaps could do with a ceiling (upstairs gift shop?) They tried to play music over loudspeakers but the sound system inadequate and music indistinguishable. All staff were very pleasant and helpful and cleanliness was first class.

Recently came to Dobbies for a browse around the garden centre and for a look at the Christmas decorations, whilst here we thought we would try a small roast dinner, it's the worst roast dinner we have ever had, the pork was so tough you couldn't even cut it, the parsnips we woody, the whole dinner was just an awful taste, you need to go back to having the whole joint of meat on the counter like a proper carvery, such a shame the roasts used to be so good, won't hve another again
