The best restaurants serving British food in West Devon South West

We popped into the Chagford Inn for a drink on our first night in Chagford and ended up booking a table for food the next night! It’s a well designed and decorated ‘modern’ pub, still cosy and charming and not overly smart but you expect good food from them and it’s good food you got, we tried the game pie with truffle mash, outstanding, the venison and Cornish yard burger, amazing and the mushrooms on toast, also great. The service from the bar and waiting staff was excellent and I can see why they’ve been nominated for an award!

Great country pub - excellent food menu and drink choices - a proper Dartmoor gem. Homemade pies are highly recommended as are their homemade desserts and ice creams. Good local ales, ciders and spirits. Staff very friendly and helpful, well worth a visit!

Great food and staff fish to die for , can't recommend enough

An excellent small, friendly pub, much frequented by locals. Please note there is no food available other than a range of crisps etc.

Stayed for New Year 2024-2025. We received a warm and friendly welcome from Adam. We stayed in a standard room which was spacious, had plenty of storage, was quiet, comfortable, good selection of teas/coffees/water and biscuits were provided. During our stay all of the staff provided friendly, professional and genuine service. We enjoyed breakfast, dinner and afternoon sandwiches. The food was of high standard, well presented and good flavours.The old building was charming as was the Church opposite and the town of Chagford. Good base for walking! Would definitely recommend a stay.

My husband and I decided to pop here for a drink and snack as when we visited previously ( last year) we found them very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, not this time. The young girl serving us was very sullen throughout. No manners to speak of and at one point very rude. Sadly we won't be returning.

Lovely place with great atmosphere and smiling and friendly staff. Wonderful coffee too.

Disappointed after previous visits. Food wasn't hot ,coleslaw had a skin formed over it long waiting time to be served and receive meal. Was quite busy maybe more staff needed.

We met our best friends for a Christmas lunch. It was an excellent experience in every way. We were made to feel really welcome and ut felt like being in someone's home. All the staff but especially the restaurant manager were charming as well as ensuring we had the best experience. All the food we chose was amazing being beautifully presented and delicious and the wines were excellent. We never felt rushed even though we were at our table for over 3 hours. Exceptional!! We will be back in 2025. Thank you to everyone concerned not forgetting the chef and kitchen team.

Unfortunately we were really unimpressed by the food here, which was a shame. I went for the fishermans pie which other reviews said had big chunks of fish and even prawns. Mine didn't have prawns but just a few tiny cubes of fish about 5mm square, all cut the same size as if from a bag of frozen. The potato topping was gloopy and watery. Didn't enjoy it at all. It had a bit of salad (mainly iceberg lettuce) with it instead of vegetables. In fact vegetables seemed missing from the entire menu and everything was with chips. Partner had steak pie which he didn't enjoy, it was dry and filled with not chunks of steak but shreds. They had also poured a watery gravy over the top which had made it soggy. Friend had steak but they said it was tough, and overcooked. She said she had had better steaks in Spoons for less than half the price. After spending £80 for the 3 of us we wished we hadn't bothered and sadly felt like we had wasted our money.

Came her for Sunday lunch, managed to fit 6 of us in last minute, the roast was lovely, great portion! And staff were attentive and friendly, love the country feel to this pub (and it has a pool table) 😃

VERY SLOW SERVICE Waited over an hour for food when only 3 other people in there. Half the meals were not cooked 100% or were over cooked. What was cooked properly was tasty and enjoyable. A mixed review really and not as good as we expected.

Fantastic food for a group of 14 people, everyone was very happy with their food which came on time, served hot and beautifully cooked. Cracking fish and chips with superb batter amongst other excellent dishes. The staff were really friendly, efficient and professional. Great evening for everyone. Highly recommended.

Bobs is THE go too place in Tavistock for ver well price great traditional cafe food! Breakfast is really good here. Great selection on the menu as well, and specials every day 😋
