Chips are all beef dripping even when veg burger meal specified. I asked for chips mushy peas and curry sauce as I was veg. They bought out a fish with it same as my partner and son. I said take it away as I’m veggie . They said even if they took fish away it was not veggie as fish cooked in beef dripping! I asked if this was same with veggie burger they said yes!! Disgusting! As I’ve had chips and mushy peas for years. No where does it say cooked in beef dripping. I was directed to the small poster where it said please tell us of allergens, I’m not allergic to meat I choose to not to eat it. They said ALL Nortnern chip shops used beef dripping and I should ASK!! DISGUSTING !!!

Good pub food served in good surroundings by excellent staffing. Due to its popularity did have to look for a parking spot, but worth it.

It goes without saying that the service and the food at Betty's is rightly world renowned - but the whole experience is spoilt by the greedy "you have to queue" policy of management. Our friends in their 80's, one registered disabled, one with dementia, treated us (in our 70's) to afternoon tea at Betty's Northallerton. She asked to book but was told that doesn't happen at Betty's, so they agreed to meet us at 1.30 at the shop. Well OUTSIDE the shop as the usual queue was in place - and boy was it a cold day. They had arrived at 1.15 and were 3rd in the queue when we joined them. At. 1.30 we were told to enter the shop, only to find another queue leading to the restaurant and 10 groups (2s,3s and 4,s) ahead of us. At 1.55 we were near the front of that queue and could at least sit down - 2 chairs and a bench are provided. We were seated at 2pm and thereafter everything was fine, but the pleasure had been taken out of the afternoon and we all agreed "never again". The only reason that there is a no reservation policy is so that they can jam more people in (and jam them in they do) some tables I would have refused to sit at. Why not ask for a no-refund deposit up front for a reservation and limit the number of tables that can be reserved BUT this system is appalling and it doesn't matter how good your staff are, or the food, the experience is spoilt. Yo can do better than this Betty's.

Chose The Blacksmiths for a birthday dinner last weekend. First visit. Being a cold January evening the pub was not busy so although we had booked, there was ample availability if we had not. The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. The ambience was typically country pub - log fire, warm, good range of ales, comfortable dining area. Food - fresh, hot, plentiful portions. We had a lovely evening and I’m sure we’ll visit again soon.

Average Sunday lunch. Not great, not poor just average. Being nearly Christmas the menu included Turkey which we had. There was a lot of food, in fact too much for the plates which made eating it difficult. Absolutely drowning in gravy as well. Vegetables were OK apart from the almost raw sprouts. I am not keen on mushy sprouts and prefer them to be firm but these were definitely not in the pan long enough. Service was very slow even though it was not too busy. They should invest in larger plates.

Went to the Wellington Heifer for my birthday stopped over night. The bedrooms are lovely spotlessly clean with a lovely modern on/suite bathroom. The place itself is quaint and comfortable, we ate dinner here and the food is superb quality well cooked not "posh nosh" but very good and cooked to perfection. And last but not least your host Rob is a lovely helpful host without being intrusive all a wonderful stay Thank You Ken & Liz simpson

Una gran ubicación. Nos sentamos afuera en una hermosa terraza. Ambos tuvimos entrantes sustanciales y ensalada. Tenía arancini en salsa de tomate - delicioso.

You can tell a good pub when, even on a cold Thursday evening, it’s full of people having a good time - and that’s what the Crown and Anchor is all about. This is a cracking local pub in the attractive old centre of Sowerby. It’s very smart but retains the feel of a traditional pub. Service is friendly and very efficient and the atmosphere is really nice.
