We loved this fun and quirky pub. We visited for an evening meal with our dog (how lovely she was made to feel so welcome) and had a cracking evening meal - Kirkstyle steak pie with mash & vegetables and delicious home made onion rings, McHaddock Macaroni Cheese, followed by warm chocolate brownie and ice cream, and sticky date pudding & ice cream. Just the job for a cold November evening. What stood out for us was the really warm and friendly welcome, the cheerful service and the delicious food which was excellent value for money. It was heartening to see a small village inn being supported by it's local community and doing really well on a Monday night in November. The fact that the chef is also the owner makes a huge difference to the quality of food and service and we hope the locals (and visitors) continue to support their village pub. We wished we lived nearer so we could visit more often. Thank you we really enjoyed our evening.

We have visited Highland Safaris for several years, often stopping for breakfast or lunch while in the area. We were extremely disappointed when visiting for lunch today to be told the only lunch option was soup (and only one choice of soup). We asked if they had any sandwiches or anything else but were told no, only soup (with bread or scone) or cakes. While staff were friendly, they were not forthcoming when asked about the menu change (previous lunch/breakfast menu had lots of choice). We decided to go with the soup option (we were hungry and it was getting late for lunch), and while it was very tasty, it was a very small portion. We left feeling very dissatisfied with the whole experience. Not sure if there's been a change of management, but we have never before been anywhere where there has been only one option for lunch. Sadly, we won't be back.

Went here both to see the water I’ll which was not working today because the water level was too low. It was possible to see the three floors of the mill and talk to a miller about the grinding process and history of the mill. Whilst there we went to the cafe which was very busy, we did get the last 2 seats. We had coffee and scone. The coffee was hot and tasty, the scones, one cheese which was great and a fruit one which came with home made jam, were both fresh and tasty. We saw the soups and other meals being eaten and it all to be good home cooking.

We've wanted to return here since we first visited 10 years ago. Wow, hasn't it changed! I had memories of a few outside tables and being reliant on the weather. Now there's a purpose built dining area (still has a little way to go, especially with the heating!) and table service. What hasn't changed is the warmth of the welcome and the quality of the food - just lovely. Had the seafood platter for 2, what a feast. 6 hours later it resulted in a very small snack tea. A destination place, but one we'll travel to again.

We were 6 friends out for our Christmas meal. We were welcomed and sat at a corner table. It was a bitterly cold day. Sadly, the temperature in the restaurant did nothing to warm us despite being sat near a tepid radiator. There was a table of revellers next to us that were rather loud, playing a quiz and making speeches which spoilt our gathering. This was no fault of the restaurant. The group was inconsiderate to other diners. Our selection was varied. The Christmas dinner was enjoyed by two of the group, the nut roast and steak pie were also met with complimentary remarks. Thd Duck beautifully cooked the accompanying veg delicious, which suited my small appetite. The venison portion was very small, a 2"x2" slice of dophinoise potatoes and two florets of broccoli. Sadly, one member of our group returned home hungry. I wasn't too happy as he belonged to me, so I had to cook on my return home. The apple crumble was delicious, the baked alaska was the Italian version, and sadly, it was not crispy on the outside but delicious. The wine was enjoyed by those who were luckily not driving.

Delicious freshly made food and very friendly service . The shark toilet was very amusing and all constructed by the host. Dog friendly, George scored a bonio, ( or 2!!) the hosts are very welcoming and kind and could not do enough to ensure our comfort and needs met. Highly recommend. Easy access and parking.
