The best restaurants serving French food in England

Original review below from 2017, sadly as of Nov 2023 now seems to be closed. Facebook showed closure as of July but hours not updated. Wasn't open on a Saturday afternoon/evening when we visited. Fantastic hospitality, great beers. need to come back to try the food!

I’d rate it as the best place in London for dinner! A perfect mix of high-quality dining with a casual vibe. The service and team are absolutely amazing. The oysters and Dover sole were the most delicious I’ve ever had! And desserts too… Thank you! 👏

Had a great meal here, the food and service were top notch and the price was refreshingly reasonable for such a great place.

Used them twice on Uber Eats, every time there was an issue. First time they sent one breakfast when I'd paid for two. Second time they waited 30 mins then cancelled my order. Don't recommend.

My wife treated me to a lovely meal here on Friday. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu and I really could not fault it. Each course was presented perfectly and delicious. The servers were all great and hats off to one who noted my wife uses her cutlery the other way round ( i forgot his nsme ) Attention to detail. That’s only ever happened once before in The Fat Duck. By the time the 7th course arrived we were pretty full up but we had a go. The setting of the restaurant was in an old school and it looked lovely. Thank you to all team at Galvin La Chappele for making our evening perfect in everyway.

Came to Toulouse Lautrec 17/1/25 to see Evening in the Universe. Great building - lovely buzzing atmosphere, intimate and relaxing. Excellent staff, delicious ‘light bites’ to eat whilst enjoying the good music. Would happily recommend and plan to return! Many thanks Helena Siedlecka

A cosy and friendly little pub with a roaring fire - perfect for a winter's day. It's very dog friendly (Elvis appreciated roasting himself by the fire, as you can see). We had coffee and hot chocolate and all the trimmings (you can also order it with Baileys) served by the friendly and helpful staff. There is a bakery in the other half of the pub (and accommodation upstairs). If you want a slice of traditional Dales' hospitality, visit this old English pub in the sweet village of Austwick - it's wonderful.

Just finishing another brilliant fortnight AGAIN in our second home been coming back for 20 years so no more to be said from the bottom to the top staff are brilliant no one is better than anyone else so relaxed,clean and friendly so give it a go

A french style bistro in Maidstone, this independent restaurant is a lovely place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Service is always good, and the food delicious.

My wife and I walked in for lunch and very impressed! Onion soup, eggs Benedict for starters. Both excellent and fresh. It’s probably the best onion soup I’ve ever had and I love onion soup! We both then had omelettes which again were so tasty and fresh! Side salad delicious and fries were hot and had the perfect crunch! Service very efficient but non pressurised! Highly recommend this find of a restaurant just off the market place in Richmond!

Party of seven went for Xmas lunch this week - was fabulous! The food was fantastic; had the pork belly for starter, beef for main, and ganache for dessert - no exaggeration to say I thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. A real treat. Everyone else spoke highly of their experience too. Final word to the service; the young lad who served throughout was attentive, warm and professional. And our French host was lovely too. Look forward to going again.

Well we were booked for a surprise 60th Birthday meal on 22nd December 2023. Spoke directly with the restaurant to book & he phoned back to clarify . Just under before someone said they were shutting for Christmas & New Year - their last night was Monday 18th. I rang them constantly that evening with no answer, & I’ve rang them since. I have emailed them with out reply. I have never in my life had such poor customer service
