The best restaurants serving Indian food in York Yorkshire and The Humber

My partner and I came here during a weekend stay at York and let me tell you it was incredible! We weren’t expecting much as it’s a small restaurant away from the busy areas but it exceeded expectations! The menu had so much to offer, lots of dishes were original to the head chef who explained his career and all the dishes in detail within the menu. The service was great, we had booked but our server got us at a table next to the radiator as we’d come from a long walk (-4 degrees outside) which was very much appreciated. We were very well looked after!! Lovely drinks and great food you can’t ask for much more! Just wish it was closer to home so we could go regularly!!

The only reason the atmosphere isn't 5* is because I was the only one in. I have no idea why as the food was spectacular. This is my first visit to York, but can tell you it won't be my last and I will be coming back to Jorvik. I had the standard starter, but asked for a recommendation, explained the spice level I would like, and they did the rest. And in a nutshell - wow!!!! If you live in York and have not been. You're missing out. If you're visiting york and love a good curry. Look no further.

Absolutely Fantastic Service on Christmas Day! After our plans didn’t work out, we decided to go for a walk into town on Christmas Day. While wandering, we stumbled across Lal Quila and thought we’d ask if they had any tables available. To our delight, they quickly accommodated us, even on such a busy day and without a booking! The service was absolutely fantastic, and the staff were so attentive despite how busy it was. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the food was absolutely delicious. We honestly wish we had visited sooner as we’ve clearly been missing out! Thank you to the team at Lal Quila for your incredible service and hard work. You truly made our Christmas Day special! 😊

Surprising and happy find. Looking for a curry near our bnb we cane across Woodthorpe Spice. We had the Prawn Patia and Samosas for a starter - both excellent, the prawns in particular - followed by Nawabi Lamb and Tangail Lamb. These mains were really well spiced, very tasty and highly recommended. If we lived nearby, I would work through the entire menu - everything looks good and are all so well described.

A lovely, relaxed, family friendly atmosphere! Delicious food and a broad menu! Service was attentive and efficient! Couldn’t ask for more!

Me and my partner, were there last night, I had the prawn jalfrezy, my partner had a veg masala, both had onion bahgie as the starter, excellent food, and excellent service, friendly staff, would highly recommend it.

First time I had ever had Vindaloo and it did not disappoint. One small issue was this restaurant uses a lot of sugar to their dishes more than what I am accustomed to but it was very delicious nonetheless.

Primera visita y cada vez que estoy en York de nuevo sin duda volveré. Yo y 5 ex compañeros de trabajo visitamos al Virrey y todos tuvimos una velada muy agradable. La comida era mucha. El hecho de que el restaurante estaba lleno dice mucho. Desde bandejas de encurtidos hasta entrantes y tuberías de alimentación, nada quedó sin comer. Genuinamente uno de los mejores curry que he probado (¡como mucho curry!) Recomiendo encarecidamente una visita

My score would have been a full 5* if it hadn't been for one of the waiters who must have asked us at least 5 times if we were ready to order our mains, even though he could see we were not finished with our starters. I had to tell him in the end that I would let him know when we were ready. I know it was a Saturday and they need to turn tables but at least let people finish first.

Hemos estado yendo regularmente a esta comida para llevar cuando visite York desde 1994. A lo largo de los años nunca hemos sido decepcionados. La comida siempre ha sido excepcional y excelente servicio al cliente.

Food might be OK OK. But the staff was very very very very very rude ..they were not ready to give one extra plate instead they were arguing why should I give you extra plate .. we ordered plain Naan instead they returned with Garlic Naan when we asked why... they said its only .5 p more and we are trying to give you the best and not to accept their mistake How rude the staff is they said .. just because you had kids i allowed you to seat otherwise Indians are not allowed in this reasturant
