Warm, friendly service with the best Danish pastries I have ever eaten. My granddaughter devour her ice cream, claiming it to be super delicious! Would highly recommend a visit to this excellent café.

This cafe is amazing. Stopped here for a sandwich before the long drive home and so glad we did. The sandwich (Brie, bacon and cranberry for me, chicken, bacon mayo for mom) was the best I’ve ever had. Nice thick slices of the freshest bread and stuffed full of filling. The small salad on the side was just right and the coleslaw was devine. The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful from the minute you step in. Highly recommend if this cafe if you are looking for good food.

We visited for a pint on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2024. The pub itself is beautifully clean with a great selection of beer and other alcoholic beverages and an open fire which was roaring away. The staff were really friendly and warmly welcoming. We had such a nice time on Christmas Eve, we went back on Christmas Day. The atmosphere on both occasions was buzzy but not so noisy that you can’t have a proper chat. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Rye. Excellent.

I don't want to give a bad review to a family owned restaurant. But there was so much wrong with this place that is easily fixed. The staff were more interested in chatting amongst themselves than serving and while we were there there were 2 tables full of dirty plates and cups that stayed that way the entire time while the staff enjoyed chatting. If I am eating in with sandwiches and a salad I don't really want to eat out of takeaway containers, the least that can be done is to put it on or give us plates. The food offering is mediocre at best and nothing of any substance that is hot. It is like no real thought has been put into what is being offered, for example soggy croutons with salad, basic would not be difficult to offer soups etc. Overall pretty poor TBH

A Mixed Experience at The George Inn, Rye My girlfriend and I recently dined at The George Inn in Rye with my parents, and unfortunately, it proved to be a rather disappointing experience. While the historic charm of the inn itself is undeniable, the food fell far short of expectations. To start, my girlfriend ordered the leeks, which were disappointingly chewy. My mother's chicken dish was excessively sweet, lacking any savory balance. For our main courses, my parents both opted for the fish and chips, hoping for a classic pub staple. However, the fish was utterly bland and lacked any discernible flavor. I chose a cod stew, which, thankfully, was quite delicious. However, my side order of chips was inedible, overwhelmingly salty to the point of being unpleasant. The saving grace of our visit was the Guinness, which was undeniably excellent. Perhaps The George Inn is best suited for a casual drink, as their culinary offerings left much to be desired. Based on our experience, I would hesitate to recommend The George Inn for a meal. There are undoubtedly better options in Rye for those seeking a satisfying dining experience.

This is the second time I have visited The George for a drink since it reopened. Both times have been disappointing. The first time, I visited with a group of friends and we ordered Mojitos. I firstly had to wait a significant amount of time to be acknowledged and served, and when I was, the member of the bar staff told me they were out of mint and advised us to go elsewhere as they were short of staff! The second visit, my partner and I ordered a glass of prosecco and a glass of wine. They were both on tap! The woman serving overfilled the Prosecco glass so the drink cascaded down the sides of the glass, and then handed it to me wet. Weatherspoons could do a better job and at a third of the price! It was a very cold evening and we were surprised that the fire in the bar was not lit. However! Along came a member of staff with fire lighting equipment. The table in front of the fire was occupied with a party of people trying to enjoy a chat and drink. The member of staff proceeded to attempt to light the fire. He went away with no fire lit, returned to check on it and disappeared eventually with an unlit fire. This is all such a shame. It's a beautiful building with so much to offer after everything that has happened. But the staff need to pull their socks up to guarantee returning trade.
