Cafe is closed with only the bakery open. Made to order sandwiches to take away. Cafe life in Easingwold seems to be centred on the market place now.

So, so, disappointing. We gave notice of our intended visit (booking) as we were a party of 10. The bar staff (as ever) were cordial and efficient and our food order arrived quickly. Our main bug bear was the ambiance- It was the day of storm Darragh and our walking party had battled the elements for almost 5 hours. Once we’d changed into fresh dry clothing we were looking forward to a few drinks and food. With neither fire lit (one each end of the room) the room was cold and tiny fan heaters deployed were useless. We were told there was a ‘technical’ fault with the fires. Mnnn. We sat and eat in an uncomfortable and cheerless lounge, once we’d finished our meal left. (We’d intended to stay longer) It was such a disappointment after our high expectations. Needless to say we will vote with our feet next time, there are other establishments to use. So, take note, if it’s a cosy pub you are looking for try somewhere else.

Two portions of fish and chip, a battered sausage and chips, and three small tubs of curry sauce. The fish was lovely but the batter was soggy/greasy so was removed. Chips looked good and about half were, but the other half were too hard , small and bitty to be classed as chips. Curry sauce was thin and bland . The sausage; turned away by the daughter ,was even refused by the dog. Feeling woeful having wasted £27.20 on mediocre fare…… however, Yesterday evening, party of four at Indian restaurant “Spice” which is diagonally opposite. Fantastic food and staff, great welcome and money well spent. £107 to have a great experience , not £27.20 for disappointment and indigestion.

After shopping in Primark needed respite and found it in Muffin Break. We had flat whites and cheese scones. The flat whites were great the scones were ok and all great value. Next time we’re in the Hill Street Centre we’ll definitely be calling in again.
