Great pub. Superb atmosphere. Really good food. Wide range of Beers. Can’t fault it as a pub! Will be visiting regularly.

Stayed for a couple of nights for a birthday weekend treat. Room was amazing as was the food and service. All the staff were really friendly and helpful, thoroughly recommend.

Went in for Sunday dinner. And was so disappointed on the food. Peas and carrots where not cooked through the gravy was so lumpy even the second lot. Was so looking forward to a lovely roast but could not eat my food. Never had a problem with the food here.

We have visited a number of times and held our wedding reception in the private dining area and gourgous courtyard. The staff here are amazing. All the waiting staff are so friendly. The chef and kitchen team do a great job preparing wonderful food. Chris and Angela take pride in ensuring your event is planned to perfection. I strongly recommend this venue. Today was an afternoon tea that was gifted to us by friends and we had a fantastic afternoon. Many thanks all.

We have been coming here for about 6 years 4 times a year with friends who live in Essex as its about halfway for both , before last Sunday 15th , not once have we been disappointed from greeting to service to food and ambience. However , they say a reputation can be ruined in one poor one , this was a disgrace Even the manager was poor and uncaring , poorly qualified waiting and bar staff (not their fault ) but none of them had a clue , getting food and drinks wrong , leaving plates on tables far too long. Christmas dinner that had the most unexpected veg and items on plate , no salt or pepper on table , sauces etc , when we called manager over , he remarked it's not a Xmas dinner but a festive dinner , yet xmas pud on dessert menu, laughable. We saw other people complaining as well . We wont be back in awhile , a shame because we loved it there .

Jackie and her team are absolutely wonderful and very welcoming. Great pub quiz too.

Went to the fox for Sunday lunch . Arrived early to find our table was ready . Drinks and food ordering was so efficient. We both had roast beef . Everything was excellent as if it had been the first dinner of the day . Plenty of everything, even gravy . Was the best roast dinner Ive had out in a very long time . Was a wonderful experience and a total Sunday treat. Will definitely be returning.

We had lunch a Christmas meal 3 course meal for myself and my brother and 2 courses for my friends beautiful food and good prices

Excellent lunchtime meal. Chain restaurants can be very hit and miss This one has to be considered excellent. Service was perfect. The place was absolutely clean and the food was nicely prepared and served hot Would be very happy to return. Well done to all the staff

We had a booking for a large family group with ages ranging from teenagers to 80 and the staff were brilliantly attentive, food was delicious and prompt and the atmosphere was perfect. A warm welcome and the perfect venue for our Christmas family meal. Would highly recommend.

Ordered a coffee with full fat milk. Was told coffee isn’t served with full fat milk. Asked for cream. Was told coffee isn’t served with cream. Only milk available was semi skimmed. Staff member was unapologetic & rude even when I intimated that the kitchen surely had these items. I therefore had black coffee which was disgusting. I won’t be wasting my money here again.

Excellent food. And the right amount. Would highly recommend. I had the Baisl and chill with chicken good and spicy just as it should be. We have been to Thailand 16 times. This is just what we would get in Thailand.

Previously this has been our No.1 choice in the Braintree area for more than 10 years. Excellent service, good food and prices, But sadly that all came to an end on our last visit. Service & Food was still good but the portion sizes for a couple of the meals on the Winter Menu were appalling. The Fish Pie is about half the usual size, same for the sausage & bacon pasta and this is in addition to the prices having risen considerably! As much as we would love to return, it just doesn't make economic sense to pay increased prices and come away still hungry (and we are not big eaters!).
