Bought 3 pies for £12 to take out, not cheap but they are normally nice. Be warned they have added tips to you bill and if you don't pay the extra 10 to 20% which I don't really expect to when just buying them to take home. You will only end up with half a pie mushed up in one of the boxes.

I've been here a few times now, yes it's really expensive and no this place doesn't have any toilets so you have to take a walk to the communal toilets a few doors down, The big NO for me is when I've planned to spend a few hours there so sitting at a table with my friend drinking expensive beers and the barman starts putting reserved signs on everyone's tables, so basically telling guests and punters that in half an hour there table and chairs are going to be given to someone else this was done to about 7 tables and all the tables were already occupied so it's not only rude but it think somewhere a customer always has a right if they are there first.. to be honest as soon as I saw what was going on I told my friend that we were drinking up and leaving as this place doesn't deserve our money. It's nothing more than a glorified bottle shop with people running it with morals. You don't tell customers that there table is going to be reserved for someone else, it should be first come first served..

It pains me to write this but after 25 years of visiting this venue and dining here with the family I feel it necessary to register my disappointment after our latest visit. I have always loved this venue as they have always managed to cater for large parties in their private dining room. The dining room was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the menu included some Christmas dishes as well as the usual choices offered so everything was looking positive. Not everyone chose a starter and I did ask if the mains for those not having starters could be brought with the starters, this request was ignored it seems so we waited patiently for the mains. There was no doubt that some of the mains were well received, but I would certainly advise any potential diner not to order the turkey. Three of us did and all agreed it was exceedingly dried out to the point that some of it had become so transparent it resembled hard plastic. Another of the party who had scampi and chips suggested that perhaps it was time for us to seek a better venue for family gatherings. I have written to The Fitzherbert expressing my disappointment as I feel their kitchen let them down on this occasion. I am aware that some members of the party enjoyed their meals and responded to staff they had done so , unfortunately this was not the case for everyone and as the organiser of the gathering it would have been nice if my opinion had been sought on our departure. One can hardly send ones meal back when you are in a large party and have waited an hour or so to actually receive your requested dish. My advice to all potential diners. Don’t order the turkey and if you are tempted by this festive dish send it back immediately if it is extreme dried out!

Decent room totally spoiled by continuous noise from the adjacent dual carriageway at the rear of the hotel. The double-glazed main window has a large ventilated head and the secondary glazing is poor. So much for the good night guarantee!

Confusing lunch experience. Table and chairs very dirty. Ordered a sandwich. After getting back to the table waitress asked if we'd ordered a sandwich, confirmed we had. She said she'd go and ask the chef to make it and we should go to the till for a refund? Sandwich then came. Waitress came back and said forget the refund because we had the sandwich?! We didn't ask for a refund in the first place? They then tried to bring our the same sandwich again.

We had a lovely lunch after a dog walk. The food was great and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Disappointed. Had the halloumi flatbread. They said they had no halloumi and then found some - which was good and it tasted okay. However, the flatbread was stone cold and unappetising and covered in a bit of unattractive coleslaw which had no dressing on. No onions either. The salad bar was not well stocked - hardly any lettuce and mixed peppers which looked like they'd gone off - also there was no blue cheese dressing. The bread rolls were hard and may've been there several days, LOL Not Good really. It was only just okay because I had a 50% off code on the app, LOL
