The best restaurants serving British food in Northumberland North East

A group of 11 of us had dinner here recently after hearing good reviews about the steak offers. For starters we had the potato wedges and salt n pepper calamari to share. We also had two bottles of red wine and numerous glasses of beer. We had a variety of 7 different type of beef steak, 2 kangaroo steak, a barramundi with chips and a chicken parmigiana. Everyone having the beef steak commented their steak was cooked nicely. The barramundi was great too and so was the chicken parmigiana. However the two having the kangaroo steak commented their steak was quite dry as they ate into it as there was not enough sauce. They poured some of their red wine onto it so that they could finished it. Overall, everyone agreed they enjoyed their choices. Service was good but not exceptional.

The pub itself was lively and had a good atmosphere, but avoid staying overnight in the rooms. The positives were the location and friendly staff, but that’s about all. The place needs a thorough clean and the carpets in the room and corridor were so filthy that I wouldn’t want to walk on them with bare feet and they made the whole room smell. The room and bathroom had clearly been given some attention in terms of cleaning, but the things that a quick “once over” wouldn’t rectify (mould around the bath, grime on the dressing table, etc) were an issue. There were also lots of broken things in the room: the “whirlpool” bath, wobbly window fittings, holes in the panels in the bathroom. We wouldn’t stay here again, there are much nicer places in Alnwick that are similarly priced. The Black Swan ought to either drastically lower its prices, or invest in a deep clean.

Went too watch the match canny pub some good characters in there I felt really welcome

Called in for a couple on a Saturday afternoon (today). Cosy and friendly and definitely worth a visit. Very reasonably priced drinks. Will call in again next time we're around. Thanks

It's a spoons. Good service menu, bit short, probably waiting on delivery.

Ordered a kids cheese and ham wrap , it had no cheese in 👀 Kids icecream then served in a bowl with a huge chip out of it , I sent it back and was giving a snotty response

I made a last minute booking to visit friends. Georgie and Ben went out of there way to accommodate me and ensure I had everything I needed despite only having about two hours notice. The room was spotless and warm and beautiful. Ben cooked me a superb full English in the morning. I had a wonderful stay. The location is fabulous right in the heart of Alnmouth and it's a two minute walk to the beach.

Disgusting ordered two fish suppers, served by a male wearing a wooly hat. The person cooking was dressed like he had been out digging tatties, the chios were awful and appeared to have been cooked in dirty fat later that night my partner had stomach pains!!! not a surprise.

Newly refurbished and well worth a visit!

Stayed overnight on our way to Scotland, honestly couldn’t ask for a more friendly welcome. Traveling with my 43k Dobermann, nothing was a problem. Fab meal in bar area, put in corner so dog had plenty of space. Staff asked if was ok for dog to have a sausage, delivered with our meal. Every one greeted us with a smile, room warm, clean. Had large outside garden, safe off road parking, hotel quiet but busy. Would deff stay again, couldn’t fault.

Arrived with family for a meal on our wedding day . From start to finish staff were brilliant, excellent food(compliments to the chefs) excellent setting . Everyone in the party had a great time . Thanks to all involved absolutely brilliant.

World class place who look after you 100%. Would give this place 10/10 because the beer is great, the atmosphere is great and the pub is clean and well presented.

Lovely village pub. Good food. Friendly locals and staff. Will continue to visit regularly. Please support this community effort. It is well worthwhile.
