A lovely first time visit spent at Poppy Rose Tea Rooms for Afternoon Tea with my Bestie! š„° Beautiful setting with the decor giving āa touch of classā style, the feel of a classic English Rose garden. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and with two āchatterboxesā like us, we didnāt feel rushed in any way. So good we have booked again for next week! Thank you! āļøāļøāļøāļøāļø

Saturday lunch with partner on a long weekend in Bakewell. Lovage food is pretty much what you'd expect of a Michelin starred place. At lunchtime it's really a "tasting menu" only in name, since the five courses include some hefty nibbles and a tastefully small soup course. But it's all outstandingly good - notably for me the beetroot course. And the non-brownie brownie at the end, which I wasn't really looking forward to, was gorgeous. Interesting and enjoyable wine flight as well, served by a knowledgeable and friendly sommelier. We would have preferred to eat in the evening but couldn't get in so went for lunch instead. We've never been so pleased to have a noisy table of 10 in the same dining room. Without them it would have been just the two of us in a good-sized room and - much as I adore my partner - a near-zero atmosphere experience. Must be lovely when full (also like my partner - boom, boom).

Vanderlyle is a remarkable restaurant that truly excels in its approach to fine dining, focusing on regional ingredients sourced directly from local farmers. This commitment not only enhances the flavor of each dish but also supports sustainability, a core value of the establishment. The creative vegetarian tasting menu showcases seasonal produce, fulfilling all essential criteria for a Michelin recommendation. In comparison, Cookies Cream in Berlin offers a delightful vegetarian experience but lacks Vanderlyle's unique emphasis on local sourcing and sustainability. Vanderlyle's innovative dishes and attentive service make it a standout choice for any food enthusiast.

Wow! Absolutely stunning food. The tasting menu is exceptional. Beautifully paced and balanced with fabulous wine parings. The atmosphere is perfect, relaxed but with a buzz of excitement expectation and delight from all the diners. Every course was packed with flavour and invention, visually appealing delightful eating and delicious fascination with the skill of the chefs. Front of house staff were attentive but unobtrusive creating a truly memorable evening. I canāt wait to dine here again . First class !!

We booked Flavours restaurant for our work Christmas party and what a fantastic time we had! We had the whole restaurant to ourselves, which worked perfectly for our 30 guests, with a simple but delicious 3-course set menu and a superb atmosphere. Herman was so accommodating from start to finish, regularly checking-in to make sure everything was as we would wish. The staff on the night were excellent, especially given a broad range of dietary requirements, and everyone remarked on what a gem the restaurant is. Thank you Flavours.

Did I miss something? Is this place supposed to be so basic? It was featured at LCW so I figured they would have some sort of signatures. I see them on other people's reviews but nothing like that was available on my visit. There was no signatures menu, nothing creative at all. Just classics with very expensive spirits. The entire feature menu consisted of 5 insanely priced cocktails with vintage bottles. Like, if you want to pay Ā£450 for a Manhattan, they've got you covered. Using exorbitantly priced vintage spirits doesn't mean the cocktail is even done well. Who wants to risk that? I am convinced that menu exists solely to show off the age of some of their bottles, and to gouge those 20 or so silly new money millionaires that wander in here a year. Let's be honest, this is the Biltmore. Not the Langham, or even the Peninsula. And considering there were only us there, it's not exactly a popular place. The other option is a meagre 6 classics. Which, okay, to be a cocktail bar does not require you to ever have signatures. You can specialize in classics done to perfection (as I have had at The Connaught, but they had their own creations too.) I'm just not convinced a bar of this supposed class should serve gimlets with lime cordial. Sure, that may be the original recipe but surely we have evolved beyond sickly cordials? They don't even specify any sort of housemade cordial. I can only assume it is store-bought. I decided to chance their De la Lousiane. Definitely not worth Ā£22. It was mid. Plus, the atmosphere just wasn't there.Ā The place was dead and the staff were often nowhere to be found. My friends just ordered wine. Nothing seemed special to them either. The main problem is that there's just nothing memorable about it at all. It looks like every other moderately upscale hotel bar. The staff were perfunctory but mainly absent and forgettable. The drinks were fine (not good), but again, instantly forgettable in their sheer blandness. Absolutely nothing stood out, and for the price, it really, really should. I just have a hard time believing anybody actually thoroughly enjoys this place. It's a bit nothing-y. All they have is their vintage bottles... but so do many Mayfair hotel bars now, and more impressive ones with cocktails and spirits hitting the Ā£1000s. I'll admit one of those cocktails tempted me, and with a little more disposable income, I would have maybe gone with the Ā£140 1960s Negroni, lmao. But if I had that sort of cash to throw around, chances are I wouldn't be at this bar in the first place.
