The best restaurants serving French food in England

This has become a family tradition on our pilgrimages to York, ironically we can never remember the name and accidentally refer to it by it's name. To quote my 12 year old who's a lover of all things Nutella, it's banging!

We visited La Mere on a Wednesday evening and had a wonderful time. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the selective menu has all of the French classics you'd hope for. The food and wine menu are both great value for money.

Best brownies ever. They are gooey from inside and crunchy on outside. Perfect flavour and sweetness.

Food was delicious, especially the Camembert with rosemary, but what really stood out was the exceptional level of customer service. Thanks Hanan and all the servers!!

The steak was cooked wrong and very chewey

Came with family and had great service from Deanna and lovely food and drinks. Offer on throughout Jan and feb made it excellent value too.

What an absolute gift stumbling across this vibrant, well run fantastic pub. Everything you could ever want! Perfect!

EVERYTHING is right at this restaurant. The service (so nice), the food (so delicious), the atmosphere (so cosy), the look (hello Paris!). We really had a wonderful evening here. Starters: Soup du Jour, Houmous, and the Baked Normandy Camembert. Main courses: Chicken Normandy, 8oz Rump, and Winter Salad. Mmmmmmm. Delicious!

The guy front of house on sat 18th, rude beyond belief, wont be back to another cote. Walked straight out and went flat iron-welcomed hospitably.

Pleasant pub with nice, friendly staff

A gastronomic experience very different from anything I have ever tried. I ordered the A La Carte dishes, with a starter and a main course, as well as canapés and bread to accompany each dish. The food is surprising! Very delicate and refined flavors, and the presentation of the dishes is impeccable. The menu has few options, which, personally, I don't like - but I recognize that it is the restaurant's proposal, and it is all very well done. The atmosphere is beautiful, with several 70s references in the decor, an aesthetic that I really like. The service was wonderful and we were looked after very well throughout the night. Personally, it's not a restaurant I would go to again, but it was a very good experience.

The place is sterile, blend with no charm. Regret booking this place. Children drinks come in pouches 😀 Children deserts are basic and unappealing. Aperol spritz small and expensive. Menu pretty blend with no imagination and only partly French. Small portions with doubt if it is a starter or a main. The grilled salmon came completely raw inside. Really disappointed.

Only popped for a quick drink -staff were attentive and very welcoming and the cocktails were lovely.

No steak - left at 12:45pm, surprising, sorry. Nice lady took our booking. Clean place but made mistake coming here. Had good food here before now. Menu choice not so great and with no steak left we decided to go home. Thx anyway.
