Lovely atmosphere, friendly polite staff, cosy, warm too. However, nothing marked up on the menu for gluten free options making it very difficult to stay with in my dietary necessity otherwise I will be very ill. Appreciate they have a small kitchen yet many other establishments do but offer a good variety. That said an enjoyable occasion.

Cantonese sweet and sour is fabulous. But crispy beef hard and not much beef. Beef in black bean sauce, the beef chewy. Chowmain yummy but not a lot of sauce, (which I like), bit if you like a lot of gravey, you will need to ask. A litte parking outside and a disabled parking spot outside the post office.

Having been to Bettys far far too often over the years to date I have never been disappointed. Yesterday however (Sunday 20th October) I have to say that standards have slipped both in food and service. As a table of six there was at least a 10 minute delay in all our party receiving the food we ordered which just isn’t acceptable. The bacon on the breakfast when it arrived was far too crispy - as thought it had been left to keep warm. The eggs on the avocado on toast conversely were cold. I had to follow up with the waitress and ask for ketchup - rather than it being offered as a matter of course. The toast was cold. We ordered the pastry selection but were told that we had to have croissants rather than pan o chocolate - not the biggest issue but not seemingly an issue for the table next to us that ordered subsequently. Again we had to ask to get some jam rather than it just been offered. Not what it should be. To date Bettys has set the standards for how the civilised world should enjoy cake (and breakfast). There may be people from outside Harrogate who would be content with poorer service or cooking. I am not and will have to explore alternatives.

We visited to celebrate my birthday. We thought the service was very slow and also noticed they were using us for training by the looks because instead of just serving our food as it came there was a group of employees holding our food just behind us and one was telling another who was holding the dishes what they were called. We felt like second class at that point. While eating my starter i became aware of a foreign body. I then spat out a finger nail. I am not here to discuss compensation but rather how it was handled. It has had a bad effect on me and we did not receive anything in writing. I was prompted to write this review because I found a foreign body in a Ginsters Pasty recently and realised how paranoid I have become about it. On this occasion it was a small piece of soft chicken Cartledge. Basically normal! However I received a written apology all my money back and more and results of an investigation for a £2 pasty! I got no such service from this restaurant apart from nobody here today has nails like that! If you are not well heeled and very rich dont go here Yuck

Don’t touch this place, customer service is non existent. Awful approach to their customers. We were made unwelcome the moment we entered the restaurant and left without ordering any food and went elsewhere and made very welcome. Do not waste your time going here.

Yes, we subscribe to them and when they send an offer out, we enjoy a weekday late lunch. Today was a great lunch out with no hassle, great food and great service. Arrived, the place was busy on a Friday afternoon, we were early on the booking, but shown to a table straight away. Perused the menu and the special menu and decided. We would share a starter, main each off the specials and share a dessert. We had an Aged Beef Croustade, I had the Lemon Sole, the current Wifelet had the Cod. Service was paced perfectly, the wine was very good. The mains arrived well presented and piping hot. No pressure - as we finished at our pace, dessert was offered and we shared a trio of desserts, absolutely delicious. Coffee was served and all was well. Another excellent meal at the Pine Marten and the price suited our pensioners pockets !!!

Really enjoyed the Nelson for lunch. Had the fish and chips and my partner had the Venison. Been going on and off for 10+years and I've seen different menus different owners maybe staff or both. In the past food would seesaw and the atmosphere could be dark and dingy. Now and the past year I've been twice and it's such a brighter welcoming place. The staff are very helpful, especially for me being gluten free. The menu is impressive /solid without being pretentious or too basic. Plenty of classics but done impressively well. Definitely will be coming back in future. P.s ( Any waiter/waitress that can give me a wine/alcohol pairing recommendation with my meal is very much appreciated so kudos to the blond lady who did as much.).

Ate here after a terrible experience at the Bay Horse which has gone down all of a sudden. By far this pub is the best one in the small town portion sizes were plentiful and the service was “proper” after reading other reviews it looks like this one is the place to go to for local folk aswell as travel seekers. Keep up the hard work! 😊

This is my third visit to McKenzies farm shop and cafe this year and I highly recommend. We’ve had breakfast, coffee and cake and now have tried their beautiful Sunday lunch. Their selection of gorgeous homemade cakes is amazing and has to be tried!! Their menu is full of delicious home made options. But what really makes this place stand out is the friendly service you get from Dave and his willingness to go over and above for his customers. He took the business over from previous owners and he puts his heart and soul into making this an enjoyable experience for his guests. His hospitality keeps us going back (well that and the gorgeous food!). The farm shop itself is full of gifts and local producers which absolutely should be supported by people. Please give this place a try. You will not be disappointed.
