I was served by a luvly man called Matthew on Friday 28th June at 2pm. He helped me with my purchase ( which ended up being on offer, 2 for £20 ) He was polite, courteous, knowledgeable & so suited to work in retail. He was a breath of fresh air & I wish more retail outlets had a Matthew. Thank you Matthew, you made my day.

Have been going to this cafe for years and have always received excellent service and food, the staff work so hard yet always manage to be friendly and have a smile for you, the food is great and really good value for money.

Had a drive out ( 40 min drive) for lovely pub lunch, welcomed by lovely owners amber & George brilliant atmosphere soon as walked in , so welcoming. Lovely oak wood, and wood fire features. We had 3 lovely roasts and child's dinner plus puddings. Food was delicious and meat was spot on. Can't wait to try there weekly menu. Can't wait to return. Already shared with family & friends.

Put a phone order in. Collected it they read it out was fine. Got home and 2 things missing. Maybe if the women on the phone wasn’t so miserable and going “yeah” “yeah” no thank you nothing. Needs to get a new attitude same atmosphere inside aswell. Went in to get rest of order once I got home and got “soz bout that” couldn’t even speak proper English to me and got scowled at the whole time while they were getting my missing items. Love this chippy been using for years but lately it’s the service they lack, it’s not hard to smile and costs nothing to be nice. There is another chippy up road which is just as good and they are nice so if you want customer service and good food go there.

We went for Christmas Day lunch and it was disappointing to say the least. We spent £85pp and for that I’m expecting a pretty darn good roast dinner. This isn’t a dig either, I just think it’s important to give honest feedback on this as I want to support local businesses and I have had nice meals previously at the Shrewsbury and want them improve. I was anxious about this meal as we’d had food close to bonfire night previously and it not good but I was hoping they might improve before Christmas. Let’s be clear, the food was not cooked well, the vegetables were not seasoned and lacked any flavour, the meat was overcooked and the roast potatoes were the worst I’ve ever tasted in any restaurant, period. I’m just not quite sure how you can get them to be so bad, it was like eating leather. I’d have been happy with some Aunt Bessie’s ones they were that poor. The Yorkshire pudding was crunchy, lacking any of the expected texture, the stuffing rubbery and the gravy was 100% instant mix. There was genuinely not one redeemable thing about that main meal. As for the starters, if you’re doing pate like that you should be serving that on crunchy toast, not luke warm , barely toasted bread and it certainly wasn’t brioche toast as was claimed on the menu either. I don’t plan on coming back in the future despite having eaten here on a number of occasions previously. I’ll wait and see if it improves but if something doesn’t change then it wouldn’t surprise me to see this place close in the not too distant future and that would be a travesty.

Got to be the best hotel in Chester. The interior is absolutely stunning. The hotel is filled with beautiful statues and stunning decor. The staff are wonderful and so friendly. If you are coming to Chester this is the hotel to stay in!
